Suicide42 just posted something in a thread which reminded me of a little thing I've been pondering over for a long time.

First off. Do any of you have one of those "life goals" like climbing a mountain or something of that sort? Well I do...only its not climbing a mountain. I plan on walking the length of Britain. From the very top of the Scotish mainland to the tip of Cornwall. Then, one day I plan on walking across....The USA. I should imagine it would take months possibly more than a year depending on how fast I would do it (I'd like to spend time about it really). Before I did that, I also have the goal of driving across the US. I want to visit those small towns in the middle of nowhere, where the people believe those from the city of outsiders...let alone someone from across the Atlantic. I have visited both sides of the United States, and even in fact the middle (Well, close enough) but I haven't really seen it.

small towns aren't exactly what you think they are.

Perhaps not, but I want to see them none the less. I've passed through a couple of my travels, but rarely stayed over an hour.

I want to walk over to you and bring some flowers :)

No, really, I'd like to do a trip through eastern Asia.

oh, what do you consider to be small town? A lot of people consider where i'm from to be small town, but they just haven't lived anywhere that 9 million other people didn't live.

Yeah I'd like something like that...however the US is the easy option as they speak English over there :P

Besides, I've always been drawn to that country. For all I make fun, there is still something to be said for the New World.

Edit: Well I have two ideas of a small town. The first, and perhaps most obvious. The town with a population of hundreds, rather than thousands. Then the second idea, could be a larger town but is located a hundred miles from anywhere.

Interesting goal, I wish I could do something like that. You know, my goal is so generic right now, I need to finish college, get a good job right away and help my girlfriend out with a debt she has. I am stuck in the California, a state of endless roads and highways. It’s pathetically sad that I have no plans for future what so ever, and in the end I became a person I dreaded to be, a generic American with a generic plan and generic life.

So good luck man, I had a friend who did the same thing in Europe and he said he had the best experience of his life, with people he meet and places he went to .

walk across canada, you'll find the small communities you're looking for

Move to Ireland.

Hopefully a reality in 3 years time :D

Trust me. Small towns suck. Unless they're really close to something really cool.

But there's no fun in them?!?!!??!?!?!?!?!?!

one of my mates dropped out of uni last year. he was over here from australia and he was getting kind of homesick. so he decided to head home on his motorbike.

that's right folks, this crazy idiot is literally biking his way halfway accross the world.

his plan was to use nothing but his bike or a boat for the island hopping trips in south eastern asia. the last email i got from him was about a week ago when he was in Calcutta in eastern india. he left here in mid-july, so i guess he's making good progress.

i'd love to do something like that, but it'd have to be at a time when i really have no commitments/responsibilities. and of course i'd need to have enough money to survive for the trip.

Go to Wyoming. Lots of little towns there. They have fresh raspberry shakes, and huckleberry scones, and buffalo burgers! And this one place that serves ice cream gives you like 4 giant scoops when you order two scoops. Greatest place in the world :D.

Ah yes...money. Money always presents its self when I need it. Odd that, but I've always managed to get by regardless of the circumstances....even when my parents didn't have jobs I managed to get enough money from somewhere to be able to buy extra sweets that my friends could have.

Careful when going up by that Montana and Wyoming... don't drink the tap water... unlessh yoush is a mashochisht! :O

Anyway, I wanna go to Australia... and shail around zee world!

actually my plan is just to leave, and meander around the states and basically just see what there is to see, live from day to day instead of having these long term goals. maybe bring a couple hundred bucks and just see how far i could make it. id really like to meet people all around the US, take a look at all the things from tour guide pamphlet things. id bring a gun too incase people tried to mess with me (id probably look pretty bad, being a homeless person)

Go for it sparrow. Bear in mind though, all those people who say do it now you won't be able to do it later, they're wrong :) The older you get, the more money you have :)

Live alone in the northern Canadian wilderness without any help from civilization for a full year.

Yes....in my case, the older I get the more time I will have as well ;)

Such is life outside the box that is - the career path :) I'm going to uni, but I'm going so that I can learn....no so that I can find a decent job. All in all I think my life is going to pan out quite nice. Its all worked the way I planned(Well, I wouldn't say planned...but, I would say the "way I would have wanted if I were a 100 year old man looking back on it all") so far.

Mullinator, I'd love to do that....but I'd probably provoke one too many wild red back Mounties.(Canada's most fierce predator.)

i want to get married to the girl of my dreams, have children and grow old being very happy and financially secure but not rich.

I walked out to my car this morning. I decided that was enough walking for one day.

I'd love to have the endurance and will enough to do that kind of trek... but I'd also love to visit somewhere other than Britain.

I've been to France and Spain fleetingly, but the vast majority of my life I've been stuck on this damn island. I'd love to go on a world hopping trip, particularily to visit places like New Zealand and Japan, and maybe Germany and Russia, where different aspects of my extended family tree originate from. I'm Mr. Europe, really... yet can't speak a single language other than English

One thing that I've always wanted to do was just get out of this damn country. It's not that I hate it or anything its just that I want to see what its like to live in different cultures.

heh, if you want a small town tour, your more than welcome to stop by here! Kentucky is a beautifull state (in spots). I've been all over the south, Arkansas, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee etc. etc. And I must say I'm still partial to Kentucky.

So if you're ever in the hood' give me a ring man :P

yeah there are some TINY "towns" if you go to the west, man. wyoming is the least populated state, something like 450,000 in a large area, pretty amazing. smallest "town" i've ever been to was this place called... edgewater... i think.
northern arizona, population: 3 :D

and yeah, you should probably zigzag your way through the US... if you go to newmexico, you miss colorado, wyoming montana, etc... every state is really quite interesting. even kansas... fun to marvel at the flat expanses of farmland.

if you do come back make sure to stop by sacramento farrow :) I've got an extra mattress :P

Hardly what i'd call a life goal. Heck, i plan to develop a new field of physics, become proficient at telepathy and telekinesis, escape the universe, and move to a higher state of existence.

My life goal?

To laugh often and love much, to win the respect of intelligent persons; to earn the approbation of honest critics; to appreciate beauty; to give of myself; to know even one life has breathed easier because I have lived

Actually I've changed my life goal to this now. Sounds pretty good.

Hey no mocking now, im an optimistic person. Although thats all very close to within my grasp (save for the last two, which may take some time).

well i'd like to travel the world...but seeing my family life and its all been so far.. doesn't seem likely that i'll be able to do that.

Rock out in a somewhat succesful band.

Also, I live in a pretty small town. Only it's surrounded with larger towns so we're not out of the loop :P

I can come with you on the walk, it will be kinda like in Forrest Gump :D
