Apparently on the release date Half Life 2 will be available in a Regular Edition package for $49.99 (USD) and a Collector's Edition for $79.99 (USD). Aside from all of the regular edition stuff such as HL2 , multiplayer, CS:source, what do you think will come as part of the collector's edition?

Computer Games Romania: Should we expect a Collector's Edition of Half-Life 2 close to its release date? Can you give us some details about its contents?

Doug Lombardi: It is my understanding that the Collector's Edition willbe released at retail at the same time as the standard edition. I do not have the final contents, but I can tell you that it will include a mix of extra playable content as well as some collectable type of items.

This is part of the interview at http://www.computergames.ro/articole.php/optiune-show_interviews/interview-524/index.html

There's loads of threads like this and people always want the following:
- A t-shirt
- A metal tin thing
- A "Making of..." DVD/Book
- HL:Source, Op4:Source, BS:Source, CS:Source, etc
- A lock of Gabe's hair
- An action figure/model of some sort
- A poster
- An inflatable Alyx doll
- A keyring

Fact of the matter is, we don't know and Valve won't tell us for some time. It'd better be something intensely special to live up to its projected price...

I want a Cuddly headcrab/bullsquid/houndeye toy!! :)
and thats all, aswell as extra playable content ofcourse... and HL2 !

I want a cuddly snark that makes that cute sound when squeezed...and all the Source conversions playable stuff with HL2

A making of DVD would be nice. I would like to see how they storyboarded, created models, built source, and generated the physics and lighting. Additionally, they should have a video tutorial on how to use the faceposer, and map editor, and give some examples of cool modifications you could do to change the gameplay to suit your style. I would also like a t-shirt and a computer optimization program that changes all of xp's settings, and shuts off all other running programs and optimizes driver settings before you start HL2 so that you get 100% of your resources going for the game.

Screw the posters.I want a gravity gun complete with barrel to shoot at all of your freinds   :farmer:

I'm more curious as to what comes with the special version on Steam...

There's a book coming out that should teach some of that stuff... and they have a book about the behind the scenes action (Screenshots included of course)

why would the Steam version of CE be any different than the retail?
i think Gabe even mentioned something about the CE being the exact same thing on Steam and will be available on Steam when asked about its availability.

i guess the only bonus of purchasing it over Steam would be that the Valve team may sign the Steam copies of CE.. but i doubt that.. it would be alot of work :p

I want a little gordon with a button on his back, that you can push and make him swing a crowbar! :D

Well if it is being released on Steam as well, that should indicate what it could be.
Probably Source ports of CS or HL1
Probably some extra game play on HL2...maybe an extra scene with the G-Man, an option to play extra bits of the game or something...
It would not make sense to sell the CE on steam unless their was some extra software component that is worth and extra 30 US Dollars.

I want a Half-Life 2 Poster...

Like movie poster size

His uh
...crowbar...riiiiight that's what you meant...

'.. it will include a mix of extra playable content as well as some collectable type of items..'
I assume the Steam version will not include the collectable type items. They just wouldn't fit down the copper.

I am just in it for the extra playable content :p

Boid.

dont think they would include a DvD (making of...) just because HL3 reasons. I say that because im sure they make this secondpart of the game, combined with the story of the third part...

Even if you're all too afraid to say so, it's obvious that everyone here wants a cute fuzzy Gabe plush toy.

I do! I also want a blow up Alyx doll! I'm lonely :(

Blow up doll of Alyx - quality suggestion! But will it be a 'real feel' version?

Well since the last I heard about the collectors edition is that it would be available on steam, I'm not holding out for any cool collectors items or anything. Not unless the reason HL2 got so delayed was because Valve were building a machine that encoded physical objects into bits so it could be sent through Steam...
