The console in HL2

Hi- I have problems with the console in HL2, or rather i can't make it appear.
I have enabled it in the options menu. I have tried pressing every key on the damn keyboard and nothing happens.
Anybody experienced this before?
My game is and Europe DVD edition.

Just give this a try.......C:\***\Half-Life 2\hl2.exe" -console

Right click ur HL2 exe file or desktop icon, goto properties, target & have -console @ the end. THERE MUST BE A SPACE BETWEEN hl2.exe" & -console

tick Apply to save the changes and run the game using that shortcut. Now, use the [~] key while playing to bring up the console
