The craziest sound problem!

I really hope someone can help me.
Whenever I play HL2, I CANNOT hear the sound coming from screens in the game. Ok, yeah, that sounds weird, but here's an example. In Point Insertion I walk off the train. Ok, I can see Breen's face and his mouth moving, but no sound! And then when Barney takes you into the room, Kleiner comes on to the screen, talking, but I can't hear a thing! I can hear any person talking in the game though. I didn't even know Alyx was talking to me throughout Entrapment over the intercom! Think how long it took me to find that hidden air vent! Then in Dark Energy I couldn't hear Breen talking to me as I infiltrated his complex. Can anyone help me?

Weird. Have you checked that all the GCFs are there?

Are you having sound problems in general or just in HL2?

Just HL2...I guess. By general do you mean like playing music and other stuff? Cause that works fine. This is the only sound problem I have.

Have you tried unistalling it and reinstalling it? I know it's a bitch to do but it could help...

Hmm, I don't know. Because it did the same thing with the demo.

Are your sound drivers up to date?

GCF = Game Content Files. Download GCFScape and see if see if all the HL2 sounds and music files are there.

This is where Valve's marvellous subtitles come into play
Turn them on as a quick fix
