its damned expensive, for a 16 year old any way. im thinking of getting a amd 64 bit cpu, socket 939, and maybe an nforce board by the end of the year.

my question is when, will socket 939 get ddr2 and pci-e, so that all i would have to do is buy a vid card and some ram at a cheaper date (with new mobo).

what would be a good replacement cpu for me as of now, like what is the lowest Amd 64 that rates exactly with my p4

what i have

3ghz p4
1 gig pc3200
x800pro flashed

timeline:
oct to dec 04: get amd 64
jan to june 05: gety some ram, 1 gig at least
hune to dec 05: get a new vid card, pci express

AMD will not adopt DDR2 anytime soon because DDR2 doesn't give any better performance, actually worse. DDR2 does not mean better. With their onboard memory controller and DDR400 PC3200 it performs much better than Intels solution. AMD won't change sockets/jump to DDR2 for awhile.

Nvidia and VIA will have PCI-Express boards out very soon. Before the year's end. Personally I would check out the 90nm Socket 939 CPUs (3000+,3200+,3500+).

Once you get a PCI-Express board an AGP card won't work with it. You need to make the jump with the Board, CPU and GFX card at the same time. That just means you might get an even better CPU with costs going down by then. ;)

If I were you, I would keep the X800 Pro and grab a nForce4 with AGP for an Athlon 64 on Socket 939. Then later upgrade the board and GFX card when you want.

ok, that was whta i was thinking, just changeing the mobo later when i had moeny for the ram and vid card, so new cpu and mobo for chirstmas now
