So first, EA kill Westwood then release the distinctly non-C&C Generals.

Then the Generals producer, Mark Skaggs, leaves.

Now the lead designer, Adam Isgreen has left to join Petroglyph, citing EA's apparent unwillingness to do anything with the C&C franchise as a reason.

So where does this leave C&C? Dead in the water.

:( :(

Maybe they will make something in the future.

:( :(

As long as I have Red Alert on my hard drive :)

EA undoubtably has something shitty up there sleeve. **** them all. They are franchise ruiners.

btw Pi you of all people should know as soon as EA aquired Westwood the series had noplace to go but downhill. Just remember the good times you had with C&C and dont look back, it is dead as we once knew it.

Cnc Generals. Cnc bloody renegade or whatever it was called, come on, CnC has been dead for ages.

It's so sad that alot of old excellent developers die.

Did anyone ever play Sole Survivor, I have -never- been able to find it in a store, or on the net.

I would've loved to play it ..

It won't die. As long as the Command and Conquer games sell wel there will always be more. I am confident that there will be plenty more Command And Conquer games in the future. There was a new one "Tiberian Twilight" announced. Maybe that one will be good.

I personally know several of the Westwood developers, so I clung grimly on as EA swung the axe. Anyway....

destrukt: I have two copies of Sole Survivor here. I played it for a while during testing, but the whole thing ended up being horribly unbalanced.

I actually thought C&C Generals was Great and I have allways been a big fan of the whole franchise, (Apart from Tiberean sun which was god awful :D).

But at the moment the future for C&C looks fairly grim ):

The moment Tiberian Sun came out I totally lost interest in the entire franchise. The first one and red alert were amazing, but it totally lost it after that. C&C was one of the first games I ever had for the PC.

so it was produced and shipped to stores ? if so, i have no idea how i had never heard about it.

it's a shame it wasn't bigger, the whole concept was really interesting, and very 'un-command and conquer like.'

Huh? Sorry I was too busy playing Act-Of-War to even notice.....

destrukt: it was only sold retail in the US. Not long after, Westwood dropped all support for it (mainly because it was so bad).

The premise of having a 50-player C&C game where each player controls one unit was great. However, keeping the same point-and-click interface was a bad idea. They should have allowed movement via keys, and gun aiming with the mouse.
The main flaw, however, was the powerups. You could end up with a stealth Mammoth tank that moved faster than a recon bike and had a range greater than the screen size. Quite frequently, you would get killed by units that you never even got to see!
So, it sucked.

They did said somehing about a suprise for the C&C fans, but with EA still owning the C&C name, things indeed look dark for the C&C francise

EA is teh diablo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually Blizzard is, I mean they own the rights..
*Tommarow*
EA buys rights to Diablo.

R.I.P. C&C, and btw, generals was decent. its great at lan.. EA just stopped all support for it and left it to rot. Bastards.

Only C&C game that I enjoyed was Red Alert 2, my favorite RTS game next to Dawn of War.

I personally don't think C&C has a good chance to pull off another great rts, but stranger things have happened.

If the original Westwood team (or what's left of them, i.e. Petroglyph) were given the chance, they'd make a game worthy of the C&C name. They're well aware of the shortcomings of Tiberian Sun, and they'd do an absolute bang-up job.
Here's hoping that EA come to their senses....

Incidently, Act Of War does have a fairly old school C&C feeling too it. Although they have ranked the realism up really high.

In fact it feels like the basics of C&C (IE Easy interface, Cool FMV etc etc) with parts of Generals (IE Construction Units and fixed resources.) with the three equal sides idea of StarCraft. Coupled with realism Operation Flashpoint style. Its really really hard to describe but man its cool.

Wait this sucks but I thought I heard somewhere that they were secretly working on the next red alert game...is this not the case anymore?? if so this sucks :(

Tiberian Sun might not of met expectations, but it was a Command and Conquer game. I doubt Command and Conquer, the franchise, is dead, Ea know that it's a franchise that will definately sell so you know that there is a Command and Conquer game somewhere down the line. Whether it's worth the C&C title though is a completely different matter.

A little off topic, but has anyone heard anything about Total Annihilation 2?

Id still like to buy it. Thats the only C&C i never got. Reason was i couldnt find it.

with the three equal sides idea of StarCraft
It's now about 3 equal sides in sc.
It's about 3 insanley diffrent yet insanley equal sides.
I mean look at games like AOEII with tons of races but... arn't that diffrent from one another when compared to starcraft.

I've seen concept for both Tiberian Twilite and Red Alert 3, but that was years ago...

Couldnt have said it better myself

After Red Alert 2, the series shitcanned.
I hope the new drops the Red Alert title, and adds the Tiberian back in its place.
