The "Doomsayer" Thread

Ever since the US's economic problems, there seems to be all kinds of unrest around here in the States. (I don't know how people are affected in other countries or what they are currently going through) People "predicting" the end times, collapse of the world economy etc. So my question is: what makes this time any different than WWII, US Cival War, the depression of 1929, etc? Where do they get this evidence that really bad things are about to happen at the slightest sign of any hardships? Were there these doomsayers back then too?

What are some thoughts about this around here?

Watching the news is starting to piss me off. The people forecasting the most doom and gloom on the news are either those for who 'hard times' will mean cutting down to one Holiday a year, and shopping at Waitrose instead of Marks and Spencers' or the kind of credit-shitwits that were going to end up broke regardless of which way the economy was headed. The people it will actually effect don't pipe up about it all because... well, it's been crap for them all along anyway.

Time Travellers have been known to create a tardis like dimension in between the cavity's of walls. Once in a prime location they make a crack, small hole in the wall and watch you. Creepy.
