In the E3 video, the human looking aliens don't move from their spots. They don't attempt to take cover. They just stand there and shoot. Do you think the AI is still work in progress? I would be pretty disappointed if it's the same in the final game.

Hey, I'm going to hazard a guess that the enemy AI is probably just as good as the friendly AI. I mean, it's all run off the same thing, isn't it? Although it might be interesting to have them try to flank you or something, they probably didn't move because the map designer didn't want them to.

Probably a work in progress given that the allied characters do move and take cover. At the very least, they should be no less impressive as the HL1 AI.

It's that way just for E3. Like I said before, it would be embarassing if Valve got pwned by their own AI in their own demo :)

haha no way... if he started getting pwned, he could just use the console to use the almighty Source engine and sumon up a giant hurricane to blow all the badguys away!

you realize no one was playing the game at E3 right? it was a prerecorded demo.

of course. i just was playing along with the other guy lol.

i bet that is very possible with the source engine.

Even though all enemy damage was set to 0.001 pts

I would hope so... but what would you do with it? It's already been said that there will be global wind in the game... but if there was the capability of like hurricanes and tornadoes, basically just any rotating force of air, what'd you do with it?

I thought they were very lifelike... except for when they died. They fell limp too quickly after being killed. I think they should make it so the enemies die gradually... like if you're hit with a bullet in the right spot, it should still take a few seconds to die. Although, I would expect some immediate limpness from a headshot :-P

That alien gunship sure didn't seem static lol.

Yeah. Especially when gordon threw the grenade during the street scene. The combine soldiers would have ran away but they stayed there. Plus when the grenade blew up it like shot them 100 ft into the air which isn't very realistic

As far as I know, there is a "stayput" flag enabled on specific monsters in the E3 demo.

It may not be the most realistic thing ever, but hey... if you threw a grenade at someone's feet and they just kind of got all bloody and maybe flew a couple feet, that wouldn't be very cool. I thought it was f*ckin' awesome when that guy flew all the way over the street and landed on the car lol.

Me too.
That was one of my favorite parts of the demo.

I didnt like how the guy bounced on the ground when he fell from the building (lol that was funny). They need to make the ragdolls a little less bouncy.

lol yeah that was kinda quirky. I think it'd be more likely that his bones would break from hitting the ground than bounce off of it

When's the last time you threw a grenade from some time in an alternate/ficitonal universe during an alien takeover? Point being you don't know its not different. ALSO Half-life isn't supposed to be damned realistic, they don't say its true to life either, i mean for gods sake it has aliens dude, now Counter-strike tries to put off their crap saying its realistic then has like the same caliber bullets fired from a rifle etc do 20x the damage as the pistol and that sort of crap which makes me mad cause they try to market it as realistic... or getting shot in the arm with a awp and falling down dead on the spot yet thats still popular... ALSO if they made the death animations too lifelike it would sicken me and not make me want to shoot them if they twitched and scream and crawled after you and clutched your leg and told you to tell their children that they love them... ALSO has it occured to you the combine soldiers might not be the brightest things on the block? I mean i don't see you complaining that the zombies walked into the fan dealie, =P

Then again, I cant wait to see ant lions ragdoll fall from a building. Better yet, a headcrab. That would be funny.

Bah, I needa go to sleep now, Good Night!

Dude... they were zombies lol. They eat brains, but they don't use them :-P Anyways, I would be pretty scared if a soldier was stupid enough to ask his assailant to tell his wife/kids he loved them.. but I just meant they should at least like fall to their knees before they go totally limp or something... just something that isn't fake, but isn't so real it's sickening lol.

According to Havok, thats just a matter of easily setting one flag, i really think they did some of this stuff just for the sake of the demo, to give somebody something fun to look at, after all, it wasnt a trailer

I was thinking the same thing, and they were definately using god mode and infinate ammo. Anyway, ragdoll isnt very realistic, even when applied perfectly, simply because when they die they go limp instantly and dont do anything, they dont grab their wound or anything. And ya, you wouldnt bounce if you hit the ground at that height, Most of your bones would crack or shatter, absorbing the force so you would probably just hit the ground and not make any more movements. Heh...

Yeah I wouldn't be suprised if all of it was fixed by the time we play the game. But... people don't bounce at that kind of angle. If that wasn't intentional, then they should fix it :-P

Yea, weird stuff happens when your dying, delerium type stuff, or so I hear.. [OT] yea what I wanna do is a tech demo map and have all the scientists with head-mounted cameras which you can push off a various things into weird dying stuff and watch them die on screen, YAY!

That would be a fun concept for some kind of death arena lol. Spectator TVs that show close-ups of the action : )

they didnt have god mode or anything like that they just havnt calculated or put in the damage that the monsters do correctly.

I'd have to say Ray's right on that one. Unless they were just using decreased damage... but most likely they won't do the damage stuff until the fine tuning stage of development.

if the scientists do have good ai, and get scared and run, I want to do something similar to my above idea except put them into an arena with some huge monster and watch them run around screaming until they die on camera! (Dress your scientist like a bullfighter to help him!) sorta like the arena style thing that has been done b4 with hl where you can spawn all the monsters into the pit

I know it because I read almost everything there is to read, and watched everything there is to watch about HL2.

:) If you want to know something for sure, read all the forums/news and the FAQ. If it isn't there, ask gabe or erik J.

Sorry to imform you young ones about physics but sadly, humans do bounce off the ground when they hit the ground from high falls. I am 100% sure on this and will not post the link to the site which shows this(pretty disturbing) but its true. We humans can bounce like they did in the E3 demo:|

I have never seen a man *bounce* when hitting a solid concrete surface from a high place... maybe if he hit it at an angle, yeah... but concrete has no give whatsoever. The guy would just make a dent in the ground at the most. Now if the surface were something that had a little more give in it... then yeah I could imagine a guy bouncing. But on concrete from that height I can't believe that he'd actually bounce.

---------------

Retract statement... lol. I have seen someone slightly bounce when falling from a distance like that onto a hard surface. But they just kinda flipped over onto their back. They didn't like pop up into the air lol.

That eats people....

The customizability of the Source engine never ceases to astound me. The bouncing 'jsut a simple flag change' , stay put flags. Wow , theres just so many option that you can easily tailor to add in left out features. thtats just amazing. There could be even more and better MODs than for HL1 which is the most modded game I know. This is where Valve shines most.
