"The file 'base_source_shared_sounds.gcf ' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'hl24.cab'. "

does anybody know how to fix this, cuz none of us can get past the install..

Had the same problem, the installation from the CD/DVD is looking in the wrong cab file for these files. You have to select the option to install Counterstrike also and then it willl work (weel it worked for me anyway).
