Has anyone picked this one up? A lot of people are saying it's a return to the sound of the earlier Flaming Lips, but I've only heard Yoshimi and The Soft Bulletin, so I can't comment. It does seem to me to be more spacey and "ethreal" sounding, if that makes any sense. I'm getting a very strong Pink Floyd vibe, almost to the point of deja vu on some of the songs.

I'm not sure it surpasses the brilliance of The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi, and it doesn't have a single musical orgasm à la Waitin' for a Superman or Do You Realize??, but it definitely grows on you. A worthy addition to the band's legacy, I'd say.

What do you guys think?

I saw an advert for it... yesterday, I think. I first thought it said 'At War With The Misfits' but I was very tired and it was 3:00am in the morning. But the song being played I recognised from somewhere from the following weeks, can't remember where. I'm sure my dad will be picking this up at some point.

I should pick it up, knowing my taste, but its gonna be a while. I have a lot on my plate at the moment. That said, both their earlier and later stuff was good, so a combination of the two can't be bad. :D

But apparently its only good for getting high and starring at a lava lamp.

anyway, i heard this is one of their weaker releases, im checking it out very soon either way.

Where did you hear that it's one of their weaker releases? Zaireeka is absolutely amazing. Make sure you callibrate it right at the beginning...it's really an awesome album

Don't ever trust pitchfork. They never know what they're talking about. They gave In the Aeroplane Over the Sea like a 6.0 when it first came out, then it gets reissued and they give it a 10 :|. Doesn't make any sense.

Yeah, that was a ridiculous review. It was basically him saying that he disagreed with the concept on principle (read: was too lazy to set it up) and blasting it in a flurry of sickening subjectivity.
