The Flooding Room

I was doing well but seem to be at a dead-end again. This game is more puzzling than the original. I'm still in "Route Kanal", but in an area where a room can be flooded by turning the red handle on a valve. The hallway that leads to this area said "Level Three". I've tried flooding the room and swiming part way down, all the way down, not flooding etc. but nothing seems to become apparent. Some positive occurence must come from flooding this room, I just fail to see what. Here is the screen:

-Please help

Flood the room, then swim up, climb the ladder and head back into the previous room. Swim down the hole near the ladder, and head through the pipe in the wall.

I remember spending like 20min in that room trying to find that damn valve.

HOLY CRAP!!

that level, omg i spent 2 weeks trying to find a way to get past it. you gotta turn the vaelve, flood the room and swim through the tunnel

My general rule of thumb in Half-Life games: If you're stuck, find a button, lever, or valve. It's always the next step in the game, and nothing bad EVER happens when you use one of those things. It's a law of nature.

Very good point.

I bet the final level of the final half-life game will present you with a valve jutting out from a wall in an empty white room, and then, tada, end of game omfg wtf.

And after playing, you can find back the screens in the steam/steamapps/"yourusernameoremail"/halflife2/hl2/screenshots -folder

Actually the first Half-Life was the first game to tell me not to touch every switch. I remember pressing the button under the receptionist Barney's desk and having everyone yell at me. At another time I flipped a switch only to spring up a turret that attacked everything and the only things in the room at the time was myself and a security guard.
