I want you all to check this movie out. This is probably the hardest game in the world. It's called Do Don Pachi Dai Ou Jou and was made originally for arcade by Cave, but also got converted to Playstation 2.

This movie shows you the final stage played by a crazy japanese. Need I say more?

EDIT: Woot, noticed that this is my 900th post. \o/

Wow. Thats crazy. I actually got pretty good at one of those games. That right there is just insane tho.

Wow. Thats just crazy.
How could any normal gamer or person do anything like that. I doubt i could get past the first level. And that boss was crazy.

Oh and by the way, if anyone have any game they find more challenging than this, please let me know. :)

as a gamer point of view...impressive especially that fact that this guy knows exactly where the fire wont hit him...thats crazy.... but ach people have better things to do in their lives

That was insane :)

I'd hate to imagine how long it took to learn all the enemy and shot patterns in that.

holy vagina... I'm too shocked to even joke about this.

(vagina is my only god)

Is playing games well like a job, in Japan? I heard some pretty weird things, but I think that this would balance out any biases I would have against the strange things and make we want to live there.

Cool clip

If i'm not mistaken - this is footage from an arcade. I've seen people display an obscene amount of skill at various arcade meets, and don't think this is a 'Tool Assisted Console Game Movie'
Just liking a site with similar stuff.

I thought games like that went out with 3d acceleration.

Wasn't impressive in that he just sprayed bullets and and got sprayed by bullets.

its about how good he is at dodging the shots from his enemy

Saaaayyy - I could beat SideArms in one quarter and I thought I was hot s#it, but that was nuts.

That ship has tiny hit detection.

Looking at about 2min he goes right in between 2 shots but they touch his ship and he doesn't die. If that was any other game he'd be dead. Maybe he has a certain amount of health or something but I see multiple times where shots go right through his ship.

i think there are powerups that he uses when he knows he can't dodge an incoming stream of fire, they either kill all particles on the screen or make him invincible, could be wrong though.

He's just dodgine shots and picking up health powerups at every single instance one shows up.

I really fail to see how this could be the "hardest game in the world".

The game is easier then it looks, I have played it. The character (its not a ship) has a hit area that is 1 pixel on its head, the character does die in one hit though.

Yes, the hitbox is indeed very small, but I doubt anyone on this forum would manage anyway, and you lose a life at one hit.

The only time he uses one is at the final boss. He uses a bomb, then he grabs one.
When he activates the yellow beams he won't become invincible, but all the shots on the screen gets cleared. He gets 500points * the amount of bullets on the screen cleared.

--- Edited out ---
EDIT: Silly me, I read wrong, you must have been reffering to ESP Ra. De. a shmup game also mad by cave. There you play as a character not a ship.

Most scrolling shooters of this type behave in the same way - otherwise they'd literally be impossible.

Oh no, they're still very popular on the arcades and PS2 (and the DC before it) 2D games only died in the teeny tiny world of pc gaming, which is a shame.

Yeah, and they still haven't advanced even SLIGHTLY since then (gameplay wise). Most boring games ever. They're "here's teh firzt game I coded!!" things.

Blasphemy!

*hugs copy of Ikaruga*

They're about the challenge, the high score table, the perfect run.

You remind me of my girlfriend when she saw HL2 - 'it looks just like all the other games you play'

I honestly, don't know what you are insinuating with that post of yours.

It's an even number with two zeros next to each other on the far right, I just figured I'd mention it.

Well most games (well all the ones I've played) do behave that way but most I've seen don't spam NEARLY that many shots at you.

And those games suck, maniac shoot em ups, ftw!

Warning ****ing Forever tbh... both insanely hard and also awesome 2D'ness.

The shot patterns don't look too hard to learn and avoid. Ikaruga is harder than that looks, at least in double-play mode.
