I just got this message from Devion, via mass-eMail:

Hello everyone..

This mail is to inform everyone that we are moving [to] the Source engine (Half Life 2). The reason for this is not as simple to explain; Experience and 'annoyances' have made us drop the Doom3 engine.

We hope that everyone is still looking forward to seeing Haunted in action, as with the Half Life 2 engine we are sure to more outside areas possible, hopefully with the same mood as we had in mind for Doom3.

Our new domain (our old one is still there though) is http://haunted.hl2files.com

The site is expected to be up end this week, though this might be extended to another week extra due to extra features we are implementing in the site.

Thank you for your continued interest in our total conversion and we hope to see you all on our new forum @ hl2files.com.

Thanks in advance and kind regards,
Rob 'Devion' Janssen
Project leader Haunted

hehehe.. chalk another MOD up for HL2, and erase one for Doom 3.

Am I supposed to take their message on the website seriously? It will be up in a few minutes?

:( that kinda makes me sad, there are 200+ source mods due out but not too many D3:(

People complete doom3 then uninstall it because theres little replay value in either the SP or the MP. No playerbase, no mods.

Exactly. There's like, what, 200-odd people playing Doom 3 MP at the moment? And it runs like crap on too many people's PCs. My graphics card is 3 years old and it still plays CS:S like a beauty.

Once more doom3 engine got pwned because isn't good for mods...

Is there any doom3 mod yet, other than simply modify weapons and flashlights?

my friend i'm discussing the issue w/ on aim says that the only reason there aren't mods for the doom3 engine is because it's too complex and that if they can't figure out the doom3 engine, then they aren't worthy of making mods for it (it filters out all the crap basically is his argument). any refutes/rebuttles?

I was really disappointed with Doom 3. I was amazed at the graphics at first, so I played it for 3 hours. My computer can't even comprehend te MP mode and netierh can I. It's repetive and lacks creativity. Also, Doom 3 is extremely reliable on one's specs, so mods wouldn't appeal to everyone on that engine.

That using the tools requires the user to be a masochist isn't a great argument. I mean, sure, it weeds out the people who really can't make good mods. But it also pisses off the people who do have skill, but actually want to spend time making good stuff that wrestling the toolset into doing what they want.

Making mods for Doom3 is surprisingly simple (considering how complex it is to make a decent mod to begin with) its got a lot going for it.. though most are probably more used to Hammer than the one Doom3 uses, which maybe puts people off.. If there's a way to use Hammer or Worldcraft with Doom3 mapping, things would be far easier.

Also I imagine the texturing might put a few off, since a lot of people moving into it still aren't quite up on the whole normal map thing.

tbh Doom3 is a nice engine to work on, little to no time actually compiling a map, and being able to screw around with lights in realtime. It does have its pro's and cons, just like Source, I think its just people are more used to mapping for HL1 and UT than Doom.. mods will start to appear though and they will start to get good once people have got past the "oh its doom, so lets make a dark mod" the engine is advanced and you can create some really nice well lit scenes, aswell as moody dark ones.. Just needs time for the D3 mod teams to fool around and see what they can do, then some cool stuff will start appearing.

I really hope we see some good Doom 3 mods, the engine has so much potential.

Yeah, I tried mapping for it a little and just got way too confused and put it down out of frustration. I never planned on modding Doom 3, but I really hope it doesn't get left in the dust.

So many mods that I want to try...I'll have to try the top rated to begin with...
