i am so excited about his event that will be taking place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

basically it is 2 games the first being the Mega-stars of both the Edmonton Oilers of the 1980's and the Montreal Canadiens hockey teams playing at Common Wealth Stadium. Anywhere from 60,000 to 65, 000 pple are expected to attend it.. oh i so want to be there.. :(

the second game is between the current version of the Oilers vs the current version of the Canadiens (i'll watch this game too) however the big draw will be watching Wayne Gretzky & company.. i grew up watching the Oilers win 5 Stanley Cups.. that was when hockey was at its best :)

so it will available right across Canada on the CBC channel and probably in the US as well.. im not sure how many other countries will be picking the feed up.. but most notable ones i assume..

it starts tomorrow (November 22nd) at 4:30pm EST
for more info on this check NHL.com

anyway, so any of u heard of this? if so looking forward to it?

just curious, how many Albertians here? i wish i was there and had tix to go see the first game if nothing else.. hehe oh well :)

Don't know what Lil' Timmy is talking about.

Anyway, I'm very excited about the games as well. This could very well be the boost that hockey needs in order to become more popular. It will be amazing.

And to answer your question, I live around Toronto. Edmonton sure seems to be the sports capital in Canada this year. First Football, and now Hockey. I can't wait!

I live in Edmonton!

But there's no way in Hell that I'm going out to that game if I got the oppourtunity, it's too damn cold.

C'mon, its not that cold out. In fact I think the temperature has dropped below 0 degrees only 5 times this season. Oh wait...

Any popularity it gains from this, it will be killed after the CBA expires and the Lock-Out next season.

ps: I would give my left arm to be there...

neat!!!
i spent 20 years in down town Toronto, now im in Brampton..

good to see at least someone else as excited about this event as i am.. i miss watching Gretz & company light up the scoreboard so this is kind of what we used to see.. i remember staying up late many Saturday nites just to watch those 7-5 wide-open hcokey games.. exciting hockey plus 5 Stanley Cups, 'nuff said :D

prediction for the 2 games plus the Leafs vs Canucks game.

Gretz & company smoke those oldie Canadiens team :p
current version of Oilers win by 2 goals vs current version of Canadiens
Canucks are going to make mince meat out of the Leafs tonite hehe.. at least according to how the Leafs are playing on this road trip.

4:30pm EST!!! woo hoo

aw.. lets not be pessimistic about the CBA.. at least not on this day..

and yeah i too would give my left arm to be there.. its a shame that nw909 doesn't share this enthusiusm considering how close he is to this event compared to other pple who can't be there :hmph: :|

I'm sorry, I shouldn't of said that. This will be the best day ever :P It's just I have read a lot about the CBA because I did an essay of argmentation on it...and well....yea.....I'm annoyed.

Anyways....go leafs, and go Oilers!!!! (old, and current)

wooooo :)

3 excellent games tonite and it was soooo nice seeing Gretz and Messier back in Oiler jerseys.. and how about Grant Fuhr?! he didn't look like a retired goalie at all!!! in fact he looked like in Stanley Cup form

also about Coach's Corner tonite.. i know some pple think Don Cherry is a dumbass, but really at heart hes a true Canadian and only wanting to defend the interests of Canadians.. and in my books at least, theres nothing wrong with that.. okay so anyway he predicted that the League and the NHL-PA (National Hockey League Players' Association) will work out a CBA (Collective Bargining Agreement) and rid any chances of a lockout.. Cherry has always been good at knowing and predicting these things.. so this was some optimistic stuff coming from him :)

last thing: wow.. the Leafs finally showed up for the beginning of a game.. what a shocker

hehe anyway, Shinny Day/Night in Canada was a
blast, props to the city of Edmonton and the Oilers organization

a canadian that thinks its to cold?

ok...ive seen it all...i can die now...

The whole thing was great to watch. I was surprised about the Leafs winning as well. Its not that often that Vancouver loses at home. A well deserved win for the Leafs.

I was also surprised at the type of caliber most of the players were presenting at both games in Edmonton. You'd think that the game would slow down because of the cold, but it didn't.:)

It was great to see the old timers again. There were so many recognisible faces and even more talent on the ice. All in all it was very entertaining to watch. The Edmonton Oilers winning, the Montreal Canadians winning, and a surprise (and well deserved) win by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Couldn't have asked for anything more.
