Versus mode in Left 4 Dead is possibly the best multi-player game that has hit us since Battlefield 2. We have just as of 10PM EST, finished our first unofficial HL2.net game. If you were not there, we are sorry because it just happens all of a sudden. :p Fear not though CyberPitz recorded his side (the Survivors) to show us! But what about the Infected side? In Versus mode you can be those evil super zombies planning your next attack! I recorded the Infected side as we played against CyberPitz and his motley crew of Survivors as well! The side's alternate of course but we recorded it all. The first map was Blood Harvest then the server decided to switch maps on it's own to No Mercy. So the last 2 maps of No Mercy was also recorded. We are currently editing it and are thinking of doing either:
  • Two separate videos to separate the noise.
  • A split-screen video. We want this option to work and is the preferable option.
It's a really good video that I got. At one point Pitz appeared to have discovered my location as a Smoker, only to fall off a pipe and hang on to it. At which point I started to scratch CyberPitzs butt! :p Another memorable scene is Naudian getting bitch slapped off the roof by a Tank and I saw it happen. The ending is pretty good and will leave you feeling pretty sad for RJMC. Sorry bro but there was nothing we could do. This thread will be continually updated with new games as well.

*This is what I would use to record and upload as well. It's better than FRAPS: http://www.wegame.com/download/ A user actually uploaded this bug to the site so the player is good: http://www.wegame.com/watch/Tank_Car_AWESOME/

Sorry I couldn't make it, I saw the invite when I closed PES, alas it was over by then. Looking forward to seeing the videos when you've done them. If you want to make these versus games a more organised thing we can sort out announcements through Steam & may stickie this depending on popularity. You are right, it's ridiculously fun to play :D

Bored you say? Not a chance! Of course I'm not!

Is that the game I was there for the start of? Pity I was going out for dinner and the cinema :)

We've had many unofficial Hl2.net games, hool. :p

Another one tonight around the same time?

I've got to actually record through fraps correctly this time...because, quite frankly...the sound was recorded through my microphone. >_> FRAPs is a piece of shit, good thing I demo'd everything.

*EDIT* anybody know if the command from Gldsrc moved over where you can hear what your saying through your mic? Would make for some fun videos of my screaming....

Yeah but this one was documented on video. :p I'm up for it. Since being laid off from work, I have lot's of free time. :bonce:

After I get everything recorded/encoded well, we'll see what we can do.

Currently trying to get the quality control all worked out. Going to take some time, but I have the first level up in shit quality if you want a quick fix.

I think I might leave my pc at uni running a dedicated server or two connected to the steam group over xmas while I'm at home - if it runs ok with decent ping etc. - and if it gets used and people like it I might hire a server in the new year.

The .DEM files are a POS that Valve doesn't support and they know it. It's not a movie at all but all the props, etc are all playing out in the game itself. So it's just laggy as hell. Then I find out there is a video player itself in Steam: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Demo_Recording_Tools It's just as un-user friendly and Valve doesn't care. They promised us these tools would come with Steam Works but they never came out. Valve had to know that people wanted to do this as well. Why can't it be like this Valve:

You don't see many Valve machinima, just Garry's Mod. It's not that people don't want to make them, it's just Valve makes it so difficult for them to make one, let alone the mod tools itself. They claim that the mod tools will come out for L4D but I doubt anybody will find it easy to work with, let alone a nub like me. I'm gonna throw the .DEM files out there but if a 2GB, Quad core 2.8Ghz, 9800GTX can't run a video file, then that's sad Valve. This is 1998 recording days Valve. Sometimes when I hit record blah as well, it doesn't record. Here is my first play run of L4D that youtube just stalls at uploading: http://files.filefront.com/My+first+L4D+gamerar/;12473503;/fileinfo.html

The .DEM files for last night are here:

We may bash kiddie console gamers but they sure do know how to develop software to mod their games and make machinima. On the PC you have to buy or pirate only one software to record your games. Valve can't fix this neither I think because they make an excuse that not many people record videos or Source can't support it on it's 2004 engine. It's just a turd with sprinkles added on it with every new release. But it has HDR and physics!!!! So they spam that all the time even though it's really 2004 stuff and the physics puzzles are pretty dry like every reviewer has said now. The biggest physics puzzle to date was in Episode 2 and it was the teeter totter bridge scene. :|

Hmm, I've not had an issue with recording and it not working yet. But so far, I'm using FRAPs to record the games, then Ulead Video Editor to encode save. Working pretty good so far.

I agree, though, we REALLY need a better way to record and edit these things.

Well, my first recording got uploaded....then I realize it got removed for terms of use violation.

Wut?

Well, I was under the assumption that the cap was upped to 1 hr, not 10 minutes still..

I guess I have to go through and split them all up.

I'm so proud of that score.

In my defence, I was on millions of drugs.
