For this thread I think we should talk about the info we've learned about the story.
So to start it off, heres some information:

There was some kind of portal storm.
The combine came and after 7 hours, Breen surrendered for the Earth. For surrendering they gave him leadership.
Ravenholm was an old mining town where people who escaped from City 17 went. It was shelled and the headcrabs from the shells turned everyone into zombies.
That alien on Breens screen is a real Combine alien. Breen is representing the human race to the combine, and trying to persuade them to not kill the humans because the can be useful. (Being turned into slaves, soldiers, etc.) So, this alien may be a leader of the combine.

Fact : the Gman can stop time and walk in the air, and appear wherever he wants whenever he wants. Fact : Gman is God (or he's using cheats sv_cheats 1)

What are those grey matter aliens you see in the citadel?

I think they represent the evolution that is forced upon humanity by the combine.

How did you find out about ravenholm?

EDIT: Eli was the "first collabarator" with the vortagons, which brought them into the resistences cause. found this out from talking to the vortagon in eli's lab.

ummm...ravenholm is self explainitory...

it's a mineing town, there are shells everywhere, and zombies everywhere...

not that hard to figure out.
whether or not people from City17 fled there or not is open to debate AFAIK, but I may have missed something. The fact that there was a walkway leading to Ravenholm from Black Mesa East sorta backs this theory up though

Gordons goal from gman: To cut the combines connection with earth by destroying the dark fusion reactor that powers thier tunneling entanglement system allowing them to tunnel in from there universe

Can i ask where you learnt who breen was talking to, ive been through this came with a fine toothed come, but i mean was there a prong missing?

Tell me this. Couldn't G-Man have stopped the experiment in HL1? I mean like couldn't he have came to Black Mesa told the scientists to not conduct the experiment, therefore the portal would have not been opened and the human race would remain normal? G-Man is able to stop type, travel through time, and pretty much do what he wants. Why can't he stop that experiment? Hmm... :dozey:

Well if you look at the name of the model for the alien he talks to... and if you look at the thing its obviously an alien. So its probably Combine. Breen is representing the humans to the Combine leaders, so if you put that together it might be a combine leader.
And about Ravenholm, when Alyx stares into the old entrance of it you can run down the hallway and then she follows you and explains what happened.

I just found some more things while exploring the Black Mesa East map.
If you follow Mossman into the room she goes to, there are a bunch of screens and computers. She nervously persuades you to leave and talk with Eli. Hmmm I wonder why ;)

And after that you can go back to Eli and he tells you how she almost got the job you had.

Well, from what I've seen of the story (I haven't played the full game, just figured out the story form a friend who has), it seems that 1) Gordon isn't your "normal" human, 2) The G-Man is acting almost as an "agent" for Gordan, negotiating contracts for him, 3) Nihilanth (the evil guy from the original) had his own master, 4) The vortigaunts know all the answers, 5) The Combine knows the answers, 6) There will be a HL3.
Reasoning: Gordan has done far too much physical damage to be even a military specialist, yet supposedly he's just a scientist with a degree from MIT. That just doesn't seem to hold water anymore, especially since so many different factions are fighting to kill or control Freeman, since he is such a powerful weapon. Also, both Breen and the G-Man mention how Gordon has a contract, similar to that of a mercenary, and the G-Man obviously controls Gordan's life/general actions. Somehow, I get this feeling that a large overarching storyline is sitting above our heads, waiting to be dropped with the sequel/expansion. Dammit, too many possibilities to keep track of them all!

I remember that Breen had a problem trying to work out what you are too. He couldn't work out how one scientist with an MIT degree (and "not some highly trained assassin") could possibly get past the Combine so many times.

i first started thinking gordon wasn't your average human being when breen said (in Nova prospekt, you hear him through the intercom system). But by all means, he is just that, AN ORDINARY MAN.

there was put way to much emphasis on that for him to realy just be an ordinary man. Also Breen knew the g-man and he knew that gordon worked for him. Cause in the end he sais something like. Did you know your contract was up for the highest bidder. I would think that someone being controlled by an uber being that can control time isnt exactly a normal man.

In "Anticitizen One" there is a TV in the apartments that is not plugged into anything. But, you see the G-Man riding a boat and music plays on the TV. Here are some screenshots. Im not sure what this means, if it even has any meaning at all.
