The Hobbit movie is at least three years away

What about Silmarillion?

I doubt very much that book will see the light of day as far as _a_ movie goes.

Yeah, it would be very long and confusing to watch. It still would have some great battle scenes, though.

The Silmarillion was garbage compared to the other stories by Tolkein.

This was my favorite book as a kid, read it 3 times.

I loved it, and I can't wait for the movie!

I thought it was fantastic, although, quite convolted and hard to understand. Its more of as history book than anything.

Very difficult to make it into a movie, take some doing to pull it off...I can just imagine Ungoliant

And any scene with Morgoth

Damn i'll be pushing 25 by the times it's out.. Says will wait atleast 4 years before starting, let alone making it and releasing

Can't wait though, love reading it

I managed to struggle through Silmarillion at 12 and found it very hard going. But I got to the end.

The way I see it, would be (dare I say it) a series of straight to video films that would be in a box set. To me that would be the only conceivable way.

As for the Hobbit, I only hope they get Andy Serkis, Ian McKellan and Hudo Weaving back. I imagine, that the main characters from LotR will get cameos as men or elves. And maybe even John Rhys Davies as one of the dwarves.

Either way, I cannot wait for this. Last December felt very empty without another slice of Middle Earth.

I'm tired of Lord of the Rings, and I don't really want to see Peter Jackson ruin the book by making it epic and serious and highly emotional, with a forty-minute slow-motion ending. I don't think he's all that great a director, just a total geek. Judging by what he did to Lord of the Rings in terms of atmosphere (not really a bad thing), he'd better not touch The Hobbit.

You obviously havent seen 'Bad Taste' or 'Braindead.' -movies he made on days off from work with a bunch of mates- they're awesome. I think Pater Jackson is a good director, he just had one of the toughest directing projects of all time. Don't forget, the Lord of the Rings is supposed to be that story that no-one could put to film, and he managed it pretty well.

I know it's not longer but the one of a guy sleeping for 10-hours is pretty close. And the 6-hour one of shots of New York.
