If you haven't been watching the weather, the North East and West just got hit by a storm system about the size of Texas. In Michigan, it dropped around 8in. of snow and was followed up with freezing rain. The roads are impossible to navigate. Most of the snow trucks haven't made it out yet (why the hell not?) and driving through more than a half a foot on snow in my car isn't cool. Last night was a complete whitewash as I was driving to a friends, slipping and sliding everywhere to boot.

It's about 37F out right now and it's expected to to go back down tonight after some light rain. 8in. of snow + a little melting + rain + freezing temperatures at night = no school. Hurray.

Picture to come (if you have some recent pictures of your area, feel free to post them too).

Those were stairs...

Not the worst I've seen but mentionable...

Awesome.

We never get any proper snow here, maybe once a year around January/February time an inch or two of snow will fall if we're lucky. ;(

We got hit with that freezing rain yesterday morning. I'm glad it warmed up a bit in the afternoon so it was just rainning and slush on the roads when I had to go to work.

I got some rain.. that's about it, though.
Pff. SoCal.

You call that massive?

Last year my village was isolated for a whole day.

True; what we got wasn't massive, but I'm sure there's other people on this forum that got it worse (forecasted 14-16in. in some places).

hehe
I usually like to compare the snow storms i get here with what a friend of mine gets in NY. He usually wins.

sweet last year i had 5-10 foot snow drifts
5 not being shoveled 10 or so when it was shoveled

I wish... the only thing cold around here are the people.

Do you know if the storm system is moving into Ontario? I'd like to get more than 2 inches of snow.

You Got Snow? YOU GOT SNOW?

Here in england we hardly get snow and when it does it's maximum 2 inches!!

GIMME SOME O' YOUR SNOW!!!

Where's the "Holy Shit, My Area is in England and We're Not Going To Get Anymore Than Pissy Rain and Wind" Thread?

You mean the "Let's Laugh at the English Because They Don't Get Snow" thread?

It'll show up soon enough.

How ordinary is it for schools to close when you get snow? If schools close because of the snow on the pics, then D:

You don't use winter tires, do you? That might be one explanation...

The only time schools has been closed here were in the winter of 1995 when we had over a meter of snow. It think they closed for 1 or 2 days then. My neighbours still made it to school though :p

Me and my friends were out BBQing a couple of days ago when the first snow came :) Really windy and cold, but... we're vikings!

Thanks to the English far outnumbering us and causing global warming and ruining it for the rest of the world, Scotland barely gets any snow either.

-Nuri, stoking British national strife much?

The schools never close because of snow. It's always because of freezing rain or the likely hood of freezing rain. Snow is nothing when there's an entire army of salt trucks with 12ft. blades. Ice is what makes people worry. I think our county is a little bit paranoid, too, because there's been countless times where a bus lost control and slammed into a snow bank.

I like when it snows in tropical environments and the people are complete nubs at driving. Or you got the SUV 4x4 AWD jerks who are like "I can go 90MPH". Those are the first to crash. Also you don't need to drive 45MPH or 50MPH people! You can drive 60-65MPH max. Mass is gonna get slush but Manchester, NH is gonna get a foot. My college never closes. If they do, it's 5min before classes start and meanwhile I was driving for 45min. :hmph: This is my house in early '05:

Had to do yearly maint on the pos snow blower today as well.

Schools close here pretty much at the slightest dusting of snow, less for safety reasons than the sheer novelty of it - it only happens about once every ten years.

Light snow this morning although im told its supposed to fall pretty heavily tonight. woo.

Public schools close here if it snows or if it even MIGHT snow sometimes.

It doesn't snow very often. We got 18 inches of snow (by far the record) in a blizzard ten years ago and that's by far the most snow I've ever seen. School was out for weeks.

Me friend's car was covered completely by a 1/4 in. sheet of ice at around 2 AM. Not to mention the entire ground and everything else outside. It was nuts.

Awesome, snow is the shit! Looks like a normal winter day in sweden!

Holy shit, my area is aobut to get hit by a massive snow storm.

And I still have to commute to uni tomorrow. :(

It's starting to snow here as of 6:00PM EST! :E

I wish it would snow here. Yesterday it was 60 out, now its 32. Hmmmm...I WANT ME SOME SNOOWWWW

I live in wisconsin. We got hit by this same storm. I tried driving 2 miles in it to my cousins house (no way I could have made it to my house). I went about 5 - 10 miles an hour the entire way. Half the time my car was just sliding with no control.

Although my front tires are somewhat-new. My back tires are baaaalllllddd!!!! So when I finally came home, I couldn't stop quick enough to get into my drive way by pumping my brakes. I got fedup with it and slammed on my brakes. My front tires were good. My back tires just skidded and my entire car almost did a 180 pivoting around my front tires.

It snowed about three or four inches last night, and now it's 7 Celsius and raining. Goodbye snow ;(
