the "how long did it take to get running" thread

i started installing at 11:30 and by 5:30 i was able to play. thats 6 hours it took to get it to run.
 
6 hours to troubleshoot and get it working or just actually unlock the files.

It took me like 6 minutes to unlock.
 
i mean the whole thing, from start of instillation to actually playing.
 
At 1 minute past "HL2 hour" it was unlocked.
Totally shocked me!
 
very quick.. 5 mins?
I was looking in the forums seeing ppl complainign about being "20% done" when i was steaming away at 80%.
the 1st 30% odd was almost instantaeous - then it got a bit chug - I guess ppl waiting a coupla mins after HL2 hour to make sure when they rebooted it would be past HL2 hour in steams eye. hence it slowed down!
 
Starting unlocked at exactly 3 am when hl2 just got unlocked. Took me 10-15 mins.
 
2 hours, including installation, unlocking, and general Steam-tweaking. Keep in mind that I'm on dialup, of course.

*winces in agony*
 
Restarted at 7pm (release time) got it and was playing at 7:10pm. I was lucky by the sounds of it.
 
at about 8.20 (gmt) i was playing, so 20 mins ish to unlock.

well us smart people preloaded it...took me 5-10 max
 
With the full preload I had, it took around 5 minutes to unlock. HL:S on he other hand had to be downloaded, so it took hour and a half or so.
 
Started the unlock the minute it was availible, took about 15 minutes and then I was able to play.
 
About 2 hosr to get hold of a laptop with a 56k modem so i could connect to the net, around my Uni firewall.

Then about 2 hours to download, activate, etc.

To be honest - FIX IT VALVE, its terrible!
 
about 20 minutes, a whole hell of a lot faster than that pos cs:source!!!! damn time to bring on the DOD: SOURCE!!!!
 
I started installation at 6:00 pm EST. The G-Man intro appeared just after 9:00 EST. It took me 20 mins tops to install and over 2 hours and 40 mins to create a F@CKING Steam account. In my opinion there is absolutely no excuse for that.
 
I bought it retail. Took 4 hours to install and do all the steam crap. I am on dialup and it is a scam that I had to download so much crap even when I have 5 cd's sitting here. I officialy hate steam.
 
15 Mins unlocking, downloading what was needed and getting into game. Problem was that Steam got cut off after I had played for an hour and it took me 2 hours to get into the game again. Rest was flawless.
 
Are you guys serious!!! 24 hours!!!?????!! WTF???? How slow is your connection? Maybe that is why.

HL2 with a broadband connection unlocked in less than 5 minutes for me and that is TWICE. Wow 24 hours is LONNNNGGGG. Must have been unbearable to see that other people who got it later than you were playing before you. :|
