After seven days of competition and three different stages, the Playoffs for The International 2014 concluded earlier today. The eight final teams have been selected and two more have gone home, so be warned if you have yet to catch up as spoilers will follow!
After the completion of Phase One and Phase Two late last week, Phase Three's two-stage "Bubble Bracket" concluded on Monday with TeamDK and NewBee advancing to the Upper Bracket of the main event alongside Phase Two winners Evil Geniuses and ViCi Gaming. Over the two day event, 2011 champions Na'Vi, 2012 champions Invictus Gaming, Cloud9, and LGD Gaming were all demoted to the Lower Bracket after being defeated by one team or another in a Best-Of-Three series.
This means Team Liquid and Titan were both eliminated from the tournament, leaving Phase Three with just under $50,000 each. With only eight teams remaining, The International 2014 will now be taking a short three day break prior to the main event at KeyArena, where all competing teams will fight throughout the Upper and Lower Bracket to find out which two will reach the grand final on Monday, July 21st. It should be noted that every remaining team is now guaranteed at least $510,000 in prize money, a figure which grows substantially the more they approach the grand prize of $4,945,000 (at time of writing).
Be sure to check out the main event of The International 2014 Dota 2 tournament on Friday, July 18th, to find out which of the eight impressive teams will be taking home the coveted Aegis of Champions. If you're not quite up to date with the tournament or its format, be sure to check out our own TI4 Spotlight Guide video or Valve's own hub over on the Dota 2 website.
