I think this is interesting. The anime/manga (suprise!) is called Jungle Taitei (Kimba The White Lion as its called in the US), and first appeard in the 50s.

Thing is, Kimba and Simba got more in common than the name. Take a look at this site:

This isnt the first time i hear about this, and it isnt the first time Disney stole/copied something, but this is too much. Pretty much everything is the same. I kinda made up my mind, but i let you make up your own. Is the lion king a rip off or not?

The worst part of this is that Disney didnt give any credits to Osamu for this (but they did stop the movie in 97 to show on a movie festival ;)).

I also heard that the Wachowski brothers got alot of ideas for Matrix from a anime show called Megazone 29 (or was it 26? From 86- i think), but they told us about it.

Anyways, anime is all around us! :)

Holy crap. That's insane. Reading that and looking at pictures side by side, you can clearly see The Lion King IS a ripoff.. nice find

Now i can say "HAH! Thats a rip-off!" when my little brother is watching Disney Channel! Oh the joy!

Disney is American right? Wouldn't exactly be the first time foreign ideas seemed to magically apear in the USA with the 'made in america' tag.

America may be a superpower, but when it comes to new ideas and inventions, they seem to be somewhere around the bottom of the list. Infact, think of something you think was invented in America, and I can probably prove it wasn't.

times like these gets me glad that pixar plans to break off ties with disney, damn plagerisers, they deserve it

and im sure someone will come claiming it was a rip off of another game :P

you have no idea how many doom fanboys use that as an argument

Who cares? Nothing that can be done about it now.

We're talking about a 10-year-old movie ripping off a 40 year-old-movie. I think there are more pressing issues in the world today to spend my time worrying about.

Well, the Hamlet - Kimba thing isn't really too pressing, It's happened a billion of times before that. If it'd had said "Poor Norick..." I'd be a bit more concerned.

Actually, Pixar pretty much stole the idea of the family of lamps - you know, the one that's part of their logo - from a Czech guy.
But Pixar are amazing so I forgive them.

Some parts of the Matrix were ripped off from the anime movie Ghost of the Shell.

edit: 400th post!

Pixar also stole the story of Nemo from a children's book.

Thats more of an influence. The Matrix movies pulled from hundreds, maybe thousands of ideas/sources.

while the lion king thing seems too utterly blatant, can't we just say its all been done and get over it? A lot of things are remakes nowadays, because just about every storyline imagineable has been explored.

I've read this before. Never seen image comparisons before though.

Disney R teh thieves!

actually.. i do :P
i wouldn't qualify myself as a Doom fanboy...but i definitely grew up playing the Doom games.. they hold a special place in my heart :dork:

Disney is a big corporation based on thievery and shit which they hide to look like the happiest company and Disney Land being the happiest place on earth. :|

There was a few links and stuff with more info of Disney a while ago on the forums.

have you ever known disney to have a truly original story? No, they are like the pop singers of animation. Somebody else writes their script and they make it pretty...

Pretty much everything Disney make is a rip off from some old tale...

The Lion King rip off is common knowlege, as for the matrix - given the crumminess of the 2nd and 3rd movies I find it hard to believe the Wachowskis were the ones that did the 1st one. Whatever.

old news, even in berloin, and thats the last place in the world to hear news.

*looks around*

almost the last place...

yes, it IS a ripoff, and was the start of Disneys animation decline. Alladin was the last Disney movie worth watching. the rest just get stupider and stupider.

Animation decline? Ripoff or not, I thought the lion king was the most lucrative production in Disney's history. That's kindof why there's a fuss that it's a ripoff. Nobody would care if it flopped or not if it was an original idea.
