Yesterday it was announced by Valve that Day of Defeat: Source finally has a release date (September 26th!). When enquiring about getting a screenshot (ours is the one on the left, the other two are new releases from IGN PC), I also decided to ask Doug regarding the Lost Coast and when it will be released. This is his response:
Lost Coast will follow DoD. No specific date to share just yet.
What does this mean? Well, in my opinion it simply means that The Lost Coast just isn't finished yet. Although there is another possible theory before screaming the word "delayed" like a crazy person. For months now people have been wanting Day of Defeat: Source and that means there's a fair possibility that they're releasing it before the Lost Coast because people seem to want DOD: Source more. And so they should...[br]It's worth remembering that although the Lost Coast will look great, the amount of game play isn't worth getting excited about. Yes, it's been announced that it does reveal slightly more of the HL2 story, but the truth is that it will only take place across a map or two that were cut from the original Half-Life 2. Enjoy The Lost Coast, but don't get your hopes up of it being any more than two maps of gameplay.[br]OK, so you've heard our opinions on the revised release schedule, and now we want to hear yours. Visit this thread (the comments of this news post) and vote for what reason you think has caused all this new controversy. I'll post the results later![br]

I agree, I have been looking forward to DOD so much more than lost coast.

Probobly because I like multiplayer games generally more than single player. Exluding the Elder Scrolls Series, their just special.

Nice screens! I like the beach one :) All those mg windows :)

I would prefer Lost Coast to be released first, but whatever, the mini-Valve vids interest me. Either way, Valve have got a good line-up for Valve fans.

DELAYED!

Haven't you noticed the correlation between Valve talking about releasing Lost Coast and ATI talking about releasing their card?

The new ATI cards are supposed to come out in October, so yeah...

So I assume Aftermath won't come out until after Lost Coast. :|

Personally, I think it's not 100% finished. If it WAS perfect, tested and ready for release, there would be no reason not to bundle it with DoD:S. The Lost Coast would also be a lot easier to organise; no faffing around with pre-loading or Credit Card payments. Logically it should be released first.

Why can't I vote?

Under the poll: "You may not vote on this poll"

I think it's a combination of that we all want DOD:S first, and so Valve is giving it to us first, and they want to spread their releases out a little bit, and this way ATI is satisfied.

I say Valve is holding out on the new ATI cards.

Though i'm damn glad the lost cost lack of release isn't holding back dod:S. That would be extremely frustrating.

I can't vote either...but I would have liked for The Lost Coast to be released first. I never found DoD that gripping of a game, but it would have been nice to see the graphics Valve is capable of. I've always liked single-player more, anyways.

I don't think Valve is holding out specifically for ATI. I think that's part of it, but what happened is they saw the huge demand for DOD:S, so they decided to sit on Lost Coast and release it when ATI wanted them to and give us DOD:S first.

They wouldn't release them together I don't think, they'd space them somewhat so they're both more appreciated.

At first I was excited more over Lost Coast, but then I realized, no matter which is released first, we still get HDR lighting which is what I was really excited about. So either way, woot!

Tbh I'm really indifferent to Lost Coast, never really been excited for it. Now DOD:S I've been waiting for for a LOOOONG time.

I still dont under stand "because people seem to want DOD: Source more" Is going to stop LC from coming out. If its done (Witch is should be, if its not thats just sad) why dont thay release it today? thats not going to stop anyone from disliking DoD:S. if thay had the choice to release DoD:S tommaro THEN release TLC after then i could see that because more ppl do want DoD:S, but release it in a few weeks THEN TLC, im sorry but that is just dumb.

Oh well, nae bother. I personally couldn't care less about DoD: S and I'm fairly indifferent to TLC (it looks nice, but I fear it may violate my comp). I'm just concerned about Aftermath, but then this probably won't affect it.

I thought HDR was going to be introduced through TLC. Now are we still getting HDR in DOD:S? Well what's the point of waiting for TLC now if we are getting to see HDR in DOD:S?

I'm amazed no one has brought this up.

TLC is a full show case of HDR technology. DOD: Source will only contain some HDR features such as bloom lighting.

I've closed the poll. Because of the permissions in this forum (so only news writers can post news) it seems to be affecting the poll so I'll get it fixed and open it again later.

god i can't believe this....i thought i'd at least get to play lost coast before dod source

to be honest, i've never been excited for dod:s. and i'm not going to spend 20$ on it either. that's why i'd like lost coast to come out as soon as possible!

Those are the cruelest words I have ever heard in my life.

Must edmit I'm starting to get a litle..... feedup with these delays.

When comes to multiplayer games or DOD I can't say I am very intrested in it. Games like Hidden and dangerous 2 did have the best Mp but the valve Mp games is just is not very good, the reason for that.

When you are run over by 15 other players and u are shoot from all angels, then it just is'nt any fun. If this is what you call fun, well count me out.

I love SINGEL PLAYER!!! ONLY!!.

i always loved that map... looks like thats not gonna do anything but become more cemented

erm... nice poll dude.

That aside, as I've said in the DoD:S thread: "Lost what?"

It's no biggie, lost coast is going to be fun for a few hours, but nothing compared to DoD:S :D

the truth.

to each it's own, right?
I'm just so fed up of WWII shooters, and DOD:S is nothing special and groundbreaking. my opinion.

I brought it up already :naughty: , check the first page.

I just don't see how people want Lost Coast before DOD:S.

A half hour level? I will find it much easier to play DOD:S while waiting for the Lost Coast.

I couldn't care less about which comes out first. I'm just glad that Valve is cool enough to give us a free add-on like Lost Coast. I was pretty dissappointed that we were left in the dark so long with DoD:S so I'm glad that they are trying to get that out as soon as possible.
They did tell us from the very beginning that there was going to be a DoD:S, so it only makes sense that they release it before LC.

DOD:S does not interest me , but i thought valve said LC would be out before dod:s ?

They did... that's the point of this news post so people know that that isn't the case anymore.

I'm starting to wonder if they're making additions to Lost Coast, just because everyone seems quite misguided about it, no matter the number of press releases saying it's mostly a tech demo. It will be nice to see it once it's here, atleast to see the range of what's possible in the engine with HDR lighting.

I'm also wary of getting too excited over DOD:S just yet, I don't want to have that sort of anticlimactic feeling once i have it & there's no iron sights. They just seem fitting for this type of gaming, I've heard it rumored & sort of I wish I hadn't now.
