The main reason why Half-Life 2 will pwn Doom 3

Its not havok's physics, or VALVe's water, the realistic materials, or the AI, (although they all help make the experience)..

HL2 is epic storytelling experienced in first person. traveling across lands, strange and new enviroments, some populated, meeting interesting characters and battling together, raging against the machines of oppression, and rising up (presumably) as the savior of City 17,..

Doom 3 was running around in the dark with a shotgun.
The same old shallow shooter game in a shiner package.

The main reason Hl2 will pawn D3 is becuase of Modability, it's just that simple. I know Hl2 has great ******************************** but Modability rises above D3 in all aspects.

Umm.. Doom 3 is a bad game. That's why upcoming game will be better. There are other games -released before D3- that "pwn" it ,like Far Cry and HL1.

As matter of a fact , D3 is one of the worst "recent" FPS out there , so it's really not a big deal if some other FPS is better than D3 , because D3 isn't a measurement for good games.

Sometimes , you don't need to play a game to know it's better than other one, and this is the case here.

I had more fun watching the Coast Bink , than playing Doom 3.

Nah, the question atm is whether or not it will be the best FPS ever or just a good FPS. Sucking is out of the question.
Everyone who played parts of it says it's amazing, and I'm sure the parts they played are not the only good parts. And the first review says on it's cover "Definitely succeeded".

I've played D3 as well. It was exciting only once. I have no real desire to play it again soon. Maybe after about a year I'll go back and play it. HL I've played at least 2-3 times a year since I purchased it. It's the story man!

Its true,. we dont really know if HL2 will live up to our hopes (and the more anticipation/hype, the harder it will be, we do need to be carefull we're not expecting too much, or we'll just be dissapointed.)

But we have seen enough of the game to get a good idea what it will be like.

Ever since I played Half Life, I knew that the guys at VALVe "got it".. they understood what the next level in games should be, better then anyone else in the industry.. leaving behind the 'game' atmosphere and striving for a fully interactive experience.

If VALVe can't do it, no one can! So VALVe better damn well do it!

And doom3 didnt look like the bee's knee's? They are hardly going to show us bits that are'nt fun or dont look good.

And you can't say that Valve will be able to make a good sequel because Valve have never made a sequel and we dont know if Valve know how to make a good sequel.

The people that made Starship Troopers knew how to make a good film, shame they never knew how to make a good sequel.

Oh and yeah 99% of this forum will be disapointed with HL2 because they expect it to rule out the world, they expect it to be the best thing since sliced bread, they say a HL2 grace before they eat and the game wont live upto their expectations, where as me, ill probably love HL2 because i dont expect it to be better than sex.

I honestly was not dissapointed by Doom3 at all. It was exactly what I expected it to be (ok, really I thought the plot would be a bit more interesting, but only because they claimed to hire a hollywood screenwriter.) The movies were impressive, but so was the game. Very impressive graphics and animation. I had no reason to expect it was anything but the same old gameplay.

You're right,. sometimes the creators of brilliant artwork are not able to recreate the magic..

But if VALVe can't do it, and if Gordon Freeman's newest chronicles are less then engrosing, well, I'm going to lose my faith not in VALVe, but in the entire game industry..

Heavy burden, yes. But on the flip side, I agree, it will be best not to go into HalfLife expecting anything. To just kick back and enjoy (or not) whatever experience VALVe has in store.

As long as it is significantly better then Doom3 and moderatly better FarCry (a much better game then Doom3), I'll be stoked.

Suddenly I have a great deal of respect for Doom 3.

Oh, wait nevermind. They're "dollors".

From all accounts I've heard, Half-Life 2 will be extremely awesome. Even stolen build users say the pile of crap from a year ago was great.

I played Psi-ops recently, and it was a really fun game, because of the awesome "havok physics are the focus of the game" approach. But it was only a good game because the plot sucked big-time, the voice acting was lame, the character models were cartoonish and the production design had no real atmosphere to it.

Those problematic aspects are all things that we know HL2 has removed.
So, take one of the most fun games I've played recently, make it better in every possible way, and you've got HL2.
