Rightso - terribly sorry to bother y'all but I have one or two wonderings I was hoping you fine folks might be able to solve?
1. For some reason my PC has suddenly decided to add five (count 'em) more DVD drives to my array in my Computer - and here's the really funny thing! I only have one DVD drive and one CD-RW! Haha! Oh no wait that's not funny, that's annoying. I recently installed Nero's Image Drive and also DaemonTools and Alcohol120% - could any of those be the culprits? And do you have any suggestions to remedy this quandry?

2. Well, this one's a biggy but I wouldn't want to create 2 threads in as many minutes now, would I? No of course not.
So I'm living in a student house and we have the internet - well I have the internet. We've got a router and a switch and we've been trying to connect them to the DSL modem and to the other computers but to no avail <Sighs> Should I be using a Switch cable to connect the modem and the router or should a standard Ethernet RJ42 be ok?

Cheers very much!

1. Well...Daumon Tools= you can mount 1 or more drives with images (imaginary drives you could say to give something like a game installer the directory of which to install from)...Alcohol120% can do the same thing.

2. If your computer requires a user name and password to connect, then you need to configure the router (using your installation CD or the specific "address" if gives you to set it up) to enter that username and password so it is on at all times and splits the connection.

1. I'm still unsure how they work though? How could I use them to run a .bin file from my C drive, for example? And seeing as I don't necessarily need these "imaginary" drives, how do I get rid of those? And they're not harming my PC or buggering around with it are they? Oh my many worries...

2. I sort of figured the router needed some driver configuring on ze PCs, but I was wondering if an RJ45 (which is what I meant to say in my first post, not 42 - silly me) from DSL to router was ok or if I really needed a Switch cable (as opposed to patch)?

Cheers so far my man - much appreciated.

2. you can use either kind of cable between router and modem as far as i know. in fact, for this post i plugged in a switched cable from modem to router. no difference from normal one

of course this could vary from router to router. using a linksys here.

Mine's a US Robotics or summat? Should that make a difference? Hmmm.
Could it be an IP address problem?
