Do you guys think that Nintendo should do another side-scrolling Metroid, this time on the Gamecube?

I think it would be a great idea and with modern technology, they could do some really spectacular things. I certainly don't think the genre's dead. Look at the Viewtiful Joe series...two of the best games I have on the Gamecube.

Metroid owns big time, I hope the series never dies.

I agree - more 2d gameplay pls ....... for Metroid and Mario :)

Check out Metal Slug 3, along with Viewtiful Joe, this proves that 2d is far from dead. (infact Viewtiful Joe was so refreshing after all the 3d adventure games we're getting at the moment - especially as 90% of them are shit)

Side-scrolling wouldn't be bad, but I'm also in love with the Metroid Prime series too.
I think how we have it now is best...side scrollers on the portables (don't tell me they'll never do one for the DS), and 3D on the consoles. Sure the sidescrollers won't be as pretty as they could theoretically be, but thats not the point in that genre.

just like direwolf said, the handhelds can have the 2D titles and the consoles can have the 3D titles. mind you, nintendo are trying to be clever and making a 3D metroid game on the DS.... sounds like a bad idea.

Now, what if they took all the 3D models and styles and junk from the Metroid Prime series, and incorporated them in a sidescroller? Sort of like the entire game is played from the perspective of the morph ball sequences, only the camera is a little farther away?

It would be really cool to make a side-scroller with todays technology and see how far they could push the graphics...

We really need some more good side-scrollers. The last brilliant sidescroller I played was Abe's Exoddus, which was a while back. Though, there is Viewtiful Joe, which does look cool. Dunno if it's worth the money though.

Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2 are very cool :)

New 'old skool'. It'll take you back to the days of Ghouls and Ghosts, Strider and Turrican :)

VJ introduces enough new ideas to stop it being a rehash (feeling btoh brand new, yet comfotably familiar at the same time) It takes some practise, and can be tough (one to 'learn', and play on all the difficulty settings) but is one of the sweetest games to come out in ages (I am rather biased tho)

I still haven't beaten VJ. Its been a project game for me over like the past year, but man is it bloody hard.

I'd have to say NO freaking way to a 2D Metroid for the Gamecube. Sure it would own but with that controller? No thank you. If you could play with mind control? I'd vote yes now. :)

I loved super metroid and metroid fusion (gba) and i know prime is an AMAZING game but i wasnt all for it

I want nintendo to do another side scroller, but on the gba, we dont need the gc for that

I think that 3d sidescrollers are pretty ugly, like contra and those classics that were 3deeed

No way.

The controller is perfect (as seen in VJ) Forget the d-pad, the analogue stick is excellent for 2d scrollers.

The world needs more 2d games!

Super Metroid ruled. I remember fighting the likes of Kraid, Crocomire, Ridley, Phantoon and Mother Brain. Oh how I miss those days.

Damn skippy. Oh, and am I mistaken, or is "Phantoon" the coolest name for a boss ever?

The Metroid series are one of the best I've ever played!

Metroid 1 for Nintendo wasn't too great, and Metroid 2 for Gameboy I didn't even play, but the games, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Metroid Prime were awesome games! :farmer:

Play Zero Mission too. It is great. So much to do in it too (and the original Metroid 1 is unlockable for free too).

I never understood why Metroid got so huge. The old one for the SNES was decent and all, but I really don't think the games are that great. Some people seem to worship it. It's no Zelda...

Horses for courses - many ppl prefer Metroid to Zelda, or F-Zero to Metroid, or Mario to F-Zero :) Either way, Nintendo own \o/

Stardog did you play the NES version back in the day?

Super Metroid was by far and away the best, in my opinion at least. Metroid Prime I really liked because it stayed faithful to the whole...feel of metroid, but not entirely. Hard to explain really.

Super Metroid was teh pwnzerz.

I got it when I was 7, and didn't have the courage to beat it until I was 10. :P

MEtroid Prime was good, and I got up to a certain point, ate something that didn't agree with me and traded it in. How I regret that. ;(

Metroid and Zelda are sooo in the same ballpark. Granted Zelda is probobly more popular in most circles, but I think they share most of, if not all, the same elements that make them great games.

The overall story is so retellable for both series it's sick. If Nintendo did a retelling of the Super Metroid story on the GC with all the bells and whistles found in Viewtiful Joe, I'd be all over it.

The characters are so memorable and even when they deviate from the normal story, Metroid Fusion, MP and MP2, the elements that make the games great still remain. I get sucked into Metroid Fusion the same way Super Metroid, Metroid and Metroid 2 sucked me in.

Personally, I'd like to see a return in the sidescroller genre to the story of Samus's battles with Mother Brain, Kraid and Ridley. I still can't get enough of the Super Metroid story...unbelievable when I think of every game I've ever played. That's replay value.
