Once more, looking for the least memory-intensive/least-bloated video, audio, file-sharing/torrent, stuffs. That is to say, the most efficient programs for download across the interwebs.
AFAIK, μtorrent ('mu-torrent') is the least memory intensive torrenting client. At least, that's how the devs are touting it. I haven't tried it myself - happy with Azureus.
As for p2p, Soulseek doesn't seem to take up much memory either, but it has always been quite unstable for me.
VLC media player is still my favorite. The interface is so easy and clear. And it plays just about anything. It just has a hard time with .wmv files sometimes.
Other favorite would be CrapCleaner.
edit: oh read it wrong. Ehm, I use Azureus, quite fond of it. And emule if I can't find any good torrents on *******.com. edit: oh lolz filtered
Azureous and uTorrnet are the top torrent programs most people use. Azureus is awesome but if you want efficient then definitely pick up utorrent instead. Azureous uses java and that's why I wouldn't pick it for efficiency.
I think I phrased that wrong. I mean you could download the application for free across the internets, rather than the most effective application for downloading.
Looking for a good mp3/audio playin' thingymabub. Itunes dies a lot nowdays when loading Photoshop or whatever.
The latest Winamp only uses about 2-6Mb of memory for me (classic settings).
For everything else I use Media Player Classic (with Real Alternative and Quicktime Alternative installed). Very lightweight. Neither program has crashed for me in recent memory.
ViRC is a nice little IRC client that doesn't use a lot of memory
And uTorrent is awesome.
Media Player Classic is VERY efficient and lightweight, as far as I've experienced. (It beats everything else I've used in about everything I've done for watching videos)
utorrent it saves space on both your hd and memory wise. im on 56k at the momment so i was really pleased to find that utorrent is just a few kilobytes ! .
