So i've been looking for something like a laptop. I don't do much on computers besides surf the web and check my email. I like to be able to do this on the go.

I came across the Nokia N800: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/pr...0?ie=UTF8&n=541966&s=pc&qid=1195611030&sr=1-1

It runs a Linux OS and can automatically sync into nearby WiFi networks. Supports Flash 9 and up to 8gigs of memory per SD slot (2 SD slots). It's like a small little PDA type program. I was thinking about storing my music on it, using it to download music, etc..

Just wondering if anybody new to much about it or if there are any other resonably prices alternatives($200 - $250).

I like this because its smaller than a laptop, runs Opera Mini, and has good battery life. I don't have much money and I need my own web-surfing device so a decent laptop is out of the question.

I have been looking at getting one of those myself. However, I'm waiting untill the wi-max ones come out next year, so I don't have to worry about finding a wi-fi hot spot.

From my understanding WiMax will cost money (Sprint said $55 a month for unlimited usage) and availability will be in bigger cities. My city is pretty small(about 10,000 people). Hotspots are growing around here though.
I guess if I lived in a bigger city where the standard of living is higher(jobs pay more $$, but services, food, etc.. often cost more...) $55 a month wouldn't be as big of a deal especially considering you get to use it basically anywhere.

I've had a Nokia 770 for a while now (the previous version to the 800) and I can honestly say it's great. Wifi reception is great, battery life is great, and you can get pretty much any app you want on there. I've got pidgin messenger (includes every IM protocol including mirc), rdesktop (control my pc from the sofa (or my bed), original doom, and a load of wireless cracking tools (need root access but its simple enough to get) ... it already comes with a mozilla web client, email client, skype (it has a microfone and a speaker so you can actually talk to people via skype using it), video/music player, photo viewer, etc. It runs Maemo linux, and it runs it well. Loading times are almost non-existant. The screen resolution on the 770 is amazing - it's only a small screen but it's 800x480 pixels, so you can view webpages at their proper resolutions.

All in all, it's a great device - and the N800 is probably even better. Although be aware - There is an N810 coming out (or maybe already out) that could be even better than that.

I got mine brand new from Expansys for just 70 quid (140 USD?) a while ago - they were selling them off. Best thing I ever bought.

I would get the 810 because the main advantage over the 800 is the keyboard. However, the cost is quite a bit more than an 800.

Thanks for the nice little review lepobz, if the 770 is that good and from everwhere i've read the 800 is even better... I'll probably get one.
