Ok I have a radeon 9600xt 128mb and whenever i go to like 1280x1024 in a steam game the frequency gets f***ed and then its all screwed up. I can't find where to fix it.

Also when I change the frequency of my monitor it doesn't change.(ive tried 160hz and it the monitor only supports like 100 or somthing and it was normal.

I have set it to 60Hz but still the same problem.
It doesn't do this in software mode so I've been looking in the DX and OGL options.

I also can't change from 4x to 8x for some reason.

Did it just start messing up all of a sudden? What caused it? Steam? New Video Card Drivers? New Hardware? You have to be more specific.

Best bet is to go into your advance display setting and check your refresh rate there. There should also be an option to hide all refresh rates your monitor does not support. You should check that, if not you could fry your monitor.

ok im not a retard :)

More info on the rates screwing up:
- Brand new graphics card.
- Only happens when D3D or OGL are used.
- Software modes are fine.
- I've set all frequencies i can find in the ATI Advanced to 60.

More info on 4x/8x:
- Under SMARTGART
- Fastwrite when i click re-test becomes enabled but i click ok and it restarts and is disabled.
- If i change 4x to 8x it does the same starts back up and is back to 4x.

leave it at 60MHz
haha I feel like such a douche for laughing at that. Maybe my eyes are better but 60hz is way to slow for me. I have to set it at 75hz so the screen doesn't flicker.

Thats most likely because your monitor doesn't support it.
My screen is fine with 60.

My monitor is supposed to be set at 85.

What was your previous graphics card? And did the graphics card ever work properly?
First, I would check your bios to see if the settings are right. It also sounds like it could be a problem with your graphics card drivers, it could be a conflict with old drivers. I would reinstall those drivers again.

I hate it when hardware doesn't work properly. Couple months ago one of my hard drives crashed. Luckily, I got my revenge by using my drill on it.
