‘From anti-aircraft missiles to hundreds of marksmen, an “unprecedented” security operation kicked into top gear Thursday as 200 world leaders and a vast throng of pilgrims converged on Rome for the funeral of Pope John Paul II.

Anti-aircraft Hawk and Italian Spada missile units were deployed in the outskirts of the Italian capital as Rome’s airspace closed down along with the city’s second airport, where dignitaries are to land to attend Friday’s funeral.

Italian Interior Minister Beppe Pisanu said the security operation “has no precedents in history."‘

EDIT I'm watching (sortof ...) the funeral live on TV. Why does that Gregorian singing have to sound so damn annoying? I mean, it's basically always the same tune. Be creative, man!

I found another stream, this time with English commentary. Go to the main BBC-site. There's a header saying Mass for John Paul II. Under that headline, you can click on Watch news coverage online now. You'll get a pop-up window. Just click on BBC coverage of the funeral of John Paul II and, voilá, another live-feed.
