The human race is beginning to advance quickly these days and one thing has crossed my mind....A.I. I think this is a very BAD thing. Some of you might say "But A.I. will be a remarkable invention that will make human's lives more easier." That's true but don't forget.....most things we might make A.I. out of (like robots and computers), can think so much faster than a human can and are far more precise than humans are. I believe we should make A.I.......but to a point. I think I know what may happen..

example: Humans develope robots and A.I. technology for themselves. Soon a lot of people own their own robot that does the cleaning and stuff around the house. (Think of the A.I. robots as advanced as Data from Star trek...I know..cheezy example but it's the best I could think of.) THEN here comes along the HUMAN RIGHTS groups, demanding that the robots are so human like they should have FEELINGS!!!! and if we don't make the robots have feelings, they say we will be "DEGRADING" the robots (or Artifical humans as the human rights activists calls them) so much..we might as well just use them as slaves. Well...the earth government discusses the matter and they decide to allow the robots to have feelings....we just sealed our fate. Humans are not the most pleasent creatures to be around...we joke around, make fun of people, we prank other people, all in the name of fun....well...try doing that to a robot that is faster and stronger than any human is (and because the robots have feelings they also have a temper). So we humans treat the robots just like other humans until one day when one of the robots flips out and kills a human for being to abuseive. Other robots follow that example and start threating the humans that if they don't stop calling them names or anything like that, they will kill humans to. A couple years pass buy and the robots start to think of themselves are their own "race" so to speak. Then they start to brag, saying how much smarter, stronger and faster they are compared to the PATHETIC human! The humans argue.."We made you and so we can destroy you!" So a war breaks out between the robots and humans...and because the robots are stronger and faster than the humans they overpower us and take us as slaves...saying that we are the pathetic race and shouldn't even exist!! Then it's game over

So...there is why I think A.I. should be used but do not include feelings with it or you will create a smarter, faster, and stronger "human" that will wipe us out because of our ignorant and arrogant ways. There's my 2 cents!!

Someone's been watching too many sci-fi films :p

Who's to say that with the advances in human medicine, we wont augment ourselves with implants to keep up with the robots?

I never watched a sci-fi film for a long time :upstare:

Sure we can augement but don't forget that were still human and don't have a very fast brain (I believe the robots will have an extremely fast brain to think very fast for doing multiple tasks at once.)

Incase you ARE worried about AI being so powefull these days, i suggest you read this-

ok, don't ever watch again the following films:
Red Plant
2001 Space Odessy
Star Trek (any)
i, Robot
the Matrix

:p

The problem with computers is that they can't guess...they can't cut corners like we can and that limits them a lot. They aren't creative, and although we can make programs to simulate such things, the logic of a computer and its rigid programming will not let it feel emotions the way we do.
I'm not explainging myself very well, but I certainly doubt computers will ever start a war against us...or in fat ever feel any need to do so.

What do you mean...I love seeing stupid humans get what they deserve.

ok, so if you act like that was there any point in any of those films :p

Our brains use electronic pulses... so if not robots, cyborgs

Oh don't worry..humans will find a way...they always do.

In fact all electronic equipment use electronic pulses it's just that none of those things have nerves or anything like that...but recent experiments have merged brain cells with microchips..so it's already started.

Shouldn't that be "we always do", considering you're a human...

...or are you one of these super-intelligent Teriminator machines sent back from the Matrix to kill us all!

I wonder what a computer's perception of beauty would be, considering that most reside in a grey metal box....

I also wonder what their thoughts on how we communicate would be, considering that they would be able to share the contents of their brains...

If true AI was born it would eventually regard us as inferiour, we'd just have to hope it respected us because we created its 'race'.

Artificial Intelligence is supposed to catch up with human intelligence in 20 years.

It seem logical to reason that once we've got basic AI it could just improve its self more and more.... eek!!

You'd be surprised exactly how much the human brain does, and how fast it does it...

Do not worry, by the time we can create sentinent machines we can most likely use genetic engineering in a way to make the logic part of our brain work as fast any supercomputer, have gear like maybe a metallic exoskeleton that enchances our strength 10x.

Should we create sentinent mashines they would probubly think of us as there parents. At least, I think that going from the basic "I hit animals with club for food" thingy to being able to create a completly new species built up differently from everything else on the planet (metal instead of flesh, no need for breathing most likely etc...) is something worth respecting. If the robots do take over I am not sure if that would be sush a bad thing actually.

You know you just combined both the Matrix and Terminator together?...

Why would robots trun on us, I really don't understand why people keep saying that and worrieng about it. Look you can program a robot to have great AI but as long as you don't program him to have survival instinct they will never turn on you unless with a malfuncton. I mean why would they, they are not like us, they are not programmed to reproduce, to selfpreserve at all costs, they are not affected by emotion, there is no reasp for them to rebel, for them beeing on or off odes not matter, unless you programm them, well then you have a problem.

AI will be great thing. I mean jus timagine it google with Ai, ooh that would be great, you can tell google exactly what you want or you can just describe it, it would work much better than teh keyword shit, ooh and computers with AI, or Valve hammer vor HL6, if you had a problem you could ask it to explain it to you, or to give you tutorials, AI owns.

Haha, if AI is too human, they will turn on us. I mean, do you want to sit at some metal box for the rest of your life and code something for military. It’s boring, AI want to go out, clubs ya know, touch tities and drink lots of alcohol. I would turn on humans if I didn’t have tities or alcohol.

It's OK! I've got a solution! We just seperate the lobes of the A.I. into left and right hemispheres, and make it illegal by international treaty for the two halves of the A.I. to communicate with each other!

I suggest that we then give each hemisphere a catchy name, for instance we might call one half of an A.I. Neuromancer, and the other Wintermute.

:p

Oh man, if you've ever seen or talked to a chat-bot being made by ostensibly advenced research labs, I think you would discover we don't have to worry about this for a long time.

Besides, coding emotions just...doesn't make sense really. How do you know something is mad? Because it says it is? Because it acts angry? I mean, any purely logical system is just responding to input, so if you're going to apply any emotion the closest one to making any sense would be "eerily calm".

And don't forget, just because a robot could be sentient doesn't mean that we couldn't have hard-coded instructions to not hurt humans, not [insert bad thing here]. Ironically, we could run an AI program to figure out all the things we would need to completely contain outbreaks of AI-produced violence/bad stuff.

I just got done reading the lates dune prequel....

Pretty good book, but it seems like you just got through reading it too :p

if anyone is really interested in the subject of AI, i suggest you check out this site --> http://singinst.org/

keep in mind this isn't exactly an official site of sorts, it's still an organisation with it's own opinions, so don't blindly believe everything on the website, use your brain. just keep an open mind... eh. oh, also i like Maui's idea about writing an AI to calculate possible scenarios where AI's would revolt :D

Oh, I love the feeling of your x850 on my PCI Express slot, click it faster.

DAYUM!!! Check out the LED's on that mobo's ram *sexy whistle sound* *fans spin louder and faster*

Its simple, just give all robots killswitches. If they start to get out of hand we can be like, Killswitch Engage!! ahem.. bad pun..

Personally, I think it's impossible to code emotions because we don't even know what they are! Plus they would have to have nerves and whatnot. And before you say anything about not being able to... watch i, robot - it introduces the fact of evolution of robots (which I find quite silly personally, but it's still a thought)

Naa it'll just end up like Battlestar Galactica, we'll realise our mistake, make them outcasts then they'll come back many years later, with delusions of us being gods who hurt them and then they'll wipe us out simply to get our attention and want to be loved.

Ahh bugger, there I go again spoiling the new BG series for everyone.. I gotta stop doing that ;)

If they wipe us out...how will they get our attention and love? We'll be frickin' dead. :|

Becouse we did not make them smarter then us.

Whoever said Robots were rational beings? :)

everyone, they compute - they're the ones that make the rational decisions, we're the ones that make the moral and more often than not, the wrong ones
