Wikipedia Quote: Team Fortress
"In May of 1998, TeamFortress Software was bought by Valve Corporation, and the work they had done on Team Fortress 2 was moved to the Half-Life engine. TF2 was eventually changed to a standalone game with a new engine and the name Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of Arms. While Team Fortress 2 was eventually delayed and its development switched to the in-development Half-Life 2 engine (which would later be known as the Source engine), the original Team Fortress was given a heavy graphical facelift and released as Team Fortress Classic, bundled with Half-Life, which is based off a heavily modified Quake engine. Robin and John helped to polish and finish Half-Life's development and were a large part of the creative process for Half-Life 2."

Indeed.

and the original TF2 wasn't really this cartoonist like style, but way more serious like CS or something

i could find only this old picture on the net, but i have some in a very old game magazine.

Man... it's been forever since I've seen that trailer. My god the nostalgia. I used to love TF and played it all the time... while most of the kids on these forums didn't even know what PC games were at that time.

I remember that, and I remember waiting for TF2 to come out for a long time.

I remember what the TF2 website said. It said that when you used VOIP, your mouth would move accurately with the words you were saying. There would be tons of animations and the farther away somebody is, the less detail the model is. The closer you get the more detailed which would take less of a toll on the computer. I always remembered TFC though.

didn't CS 1.6 have that feature?

didn't CS 1.6 have that feature?
No it did not. CS 1.6 was supposed to be the "next big thing" and they kept pushing a new map with the shield. Many people tried to get it but at the time, Steam could barely have anyone on the network. I remember some lucky people did get in but only had a few seconds before they crashed. They would show pics, etc.

Yeah, the 1.6 launch was pure chaos. I tried to get on Steam for hours.

How old are you guys? I was 13 when I first bought HL, and it was 4 days after 9/11. Yeah some person would take a pic of the shield and people would say "wtf how did he get on?! I wanna get the shield!" etc. People kept suggesting refreshing and other things. Anybody remember the WON cs servers asking to search your HD for cheats? You had to allow them to do it or not be allowed on the server.

there are CSS servers with that. One accused me of cheating, so I had to join their IRC channel and download a program :|. Worst. Server. Ever.

I loved playing TF....then again, I also loved quakeworld. Too bad hardly anybody plays. :( What was awesome, was when Steam came out. I'm so lucky I got through and got my lovely Steam ID. Some person wanted to by my Steam account for 110 bucks. I was like "Nah, I've got over 100 in games alone.." he's like "How much, I'll pay it."

Shoulda took it :p

mwhaha, I still remember getting the original TF via a CD my friend burned for me. It was the first time I ever played anything online (er, it was on lan, but close enough!)

Hamachi server + QTF = Instant Friday night entertainment :p

What I liked about Quake, is because it was always inside-ish. Didn't have to worry about making trees and then horribly failing. The fire was another wow of the time.
