My story of what happens after the citadel falls.

“We’ve got ‘em on the run” yelled the commanding combine officer. Peeking out from the turret of his tank he clasped his binoculars. There in the distance his adversaries ran like sheep.

“Hold up” he called and his tank ground to an abrupt halt. Lifting off his bloody helmet the commander wiped his brow and cleaned his visor. Sliding his helmet back on over his head he climbed off his tank and addressed the combine overwatch.

“This is it, overwatch, According to radio reports a Gordon Freeman is launching an attack on the citadel itself therefore it’s our duty to push the enemy back from aiding Freeman at the citadel. Today we fight to the end,” encouraged the commander as he gestured toward the citadel gates where the main battle was taking place.

Slicing through the air came a rocket. Walking back to his tank the commander was blown backward and landed hard. He winced as he struggled to lift himself up. Glancing around he found he couldn’t hear a thing.

Getting to his feet he scurried for some cover. Tripping, he fell behind a broken down brick wall. Gasping for breath he realised his luck and made hand gestures toward his comrades who were running blindly in the fog to “come this way”.

Sprinting toward the brick wall came a lowly combine policeman. Shots sprayed dirt up as he ran, but through the fog a normally easy shot was made hard and the policeman eventually slid around the corner of the brick wall where his commander was pinned down.

Turning back to face the wall, the commander slapped the side of his head in an attempt to regain his hearing. Though all he could hear was ringing.

Sliding his binoculars to his visor the commander peered in the general direction of the bullets being fired through the fog. The commander could vaguely make out the shape of an old abandoned warehouse.

Then the citadel started to creak and groan under the pressure of the explosion moments earlier.

Taking his helmet off the commander squinted at the leaning tower. “The hell..” he muttered as the tower stood for it’s last seconds before it buckled under the immense structural bearing. The commander rose to his feet and stumbled backwards. Staring at the citadel fall the commander turned and broke into a run as the citadel came crashing down. There was no chance of escaping this monolith fall then all of a sudden he just froze, all time stopped, the earth seemed to freeze as a man came toward him…..
