It took some time to watch this. It's a movie exposing the lies of a propaganda documentary called "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" about the coup d'etat in Venezuela by Hugo Chavez in 1994. Now, this video points out how the film lies, omits crucial facts, and distorts the images into what they want you to see. I know almost nothing about Venezuelan politics, and I can certainly say that while a few of the things might have been speculation because the government refuses to release films, etc, there IS evidence that history has been tampered with by the Chavez regime. Altered images, quotes out of context. And dates that are tampered with. I believe we have a resident Venezuelan here in the forum, and I am very interested in what he has to say about it. Here it is:

You can watch the original first if you want. But it'll take some time. Plus, the video shows the relevant clips, so it's kind of redundant. Anyway, I saw a bit of the propaganda, and seeing how I was sucked in by the pictures of happy people, people waving, etc, it's quite scary that major European networks air this. Had I not known a few things about him in advance, I would never have thought to search for a rebuttal to the original.

So, what do you think? Please, DON'T RESPOND IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT. Take some time off to watch this. Don't settle for window-shopping.

I've seen the original, I'll watch this now.

Viva la Chavez!

Edit: 10 minutes in, what utter rubbish. Right-wing propaganda, I'll comment more later.
Edit2: Absolute rubbish. Can you source any of this?

I don't really care one way or another. Hugo Chavez is a ****flap whether he was legitimately elected or not. And, indeed, the issue of such is of no concern to me - I'm not Venezuelan.

I think its indeed altering or glorifying history. But more-so because the victor writes history. Its happened in all documentaries. Nobody here actually thinks documentaries are 100% objective aye?
They're seen through the eyes of the victorious, and/or through the political prism of the maker. Yet this prism does not always have to be clearcut Black & white = Left or Right. There's always us centrists that hate both extremes.

Lol @ Solaris, Where are you basing this "obvious" "right-wing propaganda" claim on? Magic again? You recognize some of the characters as obvious right-wingers or?
Or because its criticizing corruption and raises valid points on misinformation? Or is it just because it is targeting a left-winger this time? Yes, then it must be propaganda, because left-wingers would never terrorize or be corrupt or have corrupt governments that would oppress their population.
When will you learn, you don't have to be a right-winger to criticize these extreme-wacko left-wingers and their corrupt ways, and that things are not black & white; Left = good, right = evil.
Chavez basically says a "crisis was necessary" and that they more or less provoked it, but it was necessary. That reminds me of George Bush saying invading Iraq was necessary.
All coming from the same cup of bullshit.

Let me guess your thinking code Solaris:

void analyse_information
{
If political_prism = Right then
{
Propaganda = True
Lies = True
}

If political_prism = Left then
{
Propaganda = False
Lies = False
}
end

Void Criticism
{
If Criticism = Right
{
Truth = 1
Lies = 0
}

If Criticism = Left
{
Truth = 0
Lies = 1
Must_Be_Propaganda = Active
}
end

Snap out of it! Wake up! Wake Up Mr Freemen and smell the ashes! :p

lol, i love the internet. You win vince.

Ome, its crap.

It says:

Thousands of protestors were peacefully demonstrating to ask Chavez to resign, so he brought in troops and tanks and shot 30 of them and told the army to kill the protestors, but the army refused and instead ousted chavez in a coup, but then changed their minds and put him back.

That is not what happened at all, at least not what I've read in the press,TV,the wiki...

You said it, Solaris: That's not what happened according to the press and TV. The press loves the movie, and the TV airs it. Do you see what I'm getting at? :)

So where did you learn about Venezuela, Solaris? Where did you learn that the glorious leader Chavez, the man who can and have done no wrong, is such a good guy after watching this? Don't you think it raised a lot of valid points? If not, where did it fail?

Nope, you're a Londoner - Red Ken's in talks with Hugo about cheap oil from Venezuela for public transport.

I will make a "facts about venezuelan"

there I will answer questiongs and link this thread

Well on one side I have a documentary commisioned by the BBC and RTE, internationally respected media companies. On the other side I have a google video.

I'm sorry, but if you believe the google video your a clarky.

Uhm, that video was not build by Google...
And BBC != Holy Grail of trustworthy information.
