Yep, there's a film adaptation for Cormac McCarthy's novel The Road. I just checked IMDB and it seems to be coming out sooner than I expected... late November! So far, there are only 6 screenshots, but they are looking pretty good. There is also a script review, saying that the script is brilliant and mostly stays true to the book.

Anyways, it might be too early for any real discussion... there isn't even a trailer yet. But this is probably the only movie I've really gotten excited about pre-release.

(I was also looking forward to Blindness, another book adaptation, but sadly it's already gotten several bad reviews.)

I have pictures more. I could scan them in but it would probably be a sick raptor.

Condescendig as he is, rolled out the

I'm very looking forward to this. Loved that book hard out, all night long.

I love the book, definitely looking forward to the movie as long as it's being done right.

Except for that one bit where he, like, kills a guy with a flare gun :/

Yeah been following this for awhile, I hope they don't fook it up. The son seems a bit too old imo.

The book was like a paint made by a 6 year old, some saw genius, I saw a 6 year old work.

if you introduced me to a six year old who has mastery of language even remotely comparable to Cormac McCarthy i would be very very very surprised

This is one of the movies I've told myself I must read the book before I watch the movie.

I've been trying trying to read the book, but it seems the author has forsakened the sacred quotation mark.

You're only complaining becuse you're used to reading text with quotation marks and inverted commas all over the show. If the first book you'd ever read had been The Road, you'd think it was normal. Thus, get over it, and get on with it.

Never heard of it, but it looks good.

This is a good call, make sure you do.

You get used to it after a while, really the only thing that's tough is following who's who in conversations since it can get confusing in the longer ones.

It's a really great book, the first time I read it was all in one 4-hour stretch the night I opened it, beautiful story.

Haha, didn't quite manage that, but I also did it quickly.

Jesus ****ing Christ, I made the mistake of starting the book about 10ish in the evening and successfully managed to bugger up my timeclock by reading it all the way through until the sun came up. Quite possibly one of the most gripping and troubling stories I've ever read (it's left me quite agitated tbh). The way in which McCarthy is able to put across the absolute unyielding horror of the subject matter and the quiet struggle of the father and son against it whilst everything around them is so utterly consumed by it is wholly remarkable.

I'm looking forward to the film, but if it's true to the book, it's in no way going to be an easy viewing.

I just can't get that cellar scene out of my head...:|

Ugh, '****ing' and 'awesome' are not words that should ever be used to describe a movie based on The Road. Besides, I'm pretty sure that's the exact same trailer.

well i'm sorry but i have not yet read the book
but the movie looks like it could be very good

Going through the trailer again and though it doesn't seem to do the book justice in pacing, the environments and locations are looking tip-top perfect, or fantastic at least. Think I said it earlier in the thread but I'm loving the truck on the bridge and the trawlers in the dried ocean... or is it a road? Looks great anyway.

Do take the time to read it, it's phenomenal. It will undoubtedly be far better than the movie, which looks like it may be going in the wrong direction.

I wouldn't say that, though it's hard to judge either way which way it is going. The trailer itself is pretty pish but what can be seen looks pretty faithfull.

I usually just watch it with the sound off since the trailer music ruins it. The only scene that really bothers me is the one near the end after "RUN" where the kid and his mom are running away from ~15 people out in the open, because (1) there is no scene in the book with the mother running away from anyone, (2) where's the father?, and (3) I can't think of any way they could get out of that situation alive unless someone has enough bullets to kill 15 people. I also don't like how they made it look like everyone's out actively searching for/chasing them but that's probably just selective editing.

No offense, but there's no way you can tell this from a trailer, since the guy who made the trailer probably has nothing to do with the movie beyond that and didn't even necessarily read the book. Give it a chance before you start crapping on it... that way if it's good you won't look like a fool or feel like you have to dislike it anyway to save face.

I'm speaking only for book movie adaptations. I doubt I'll prefer the movie even if it's made as well as it possibly could be.

The trailer does not capture the atmosphere of the novel very well. It makes it seem less contemporary and much more thrilling and epic.

However, THIS REVIEW says that the trailers are in fact very far from the tone in the actual movie. Its like that movie Lord of War with Nick Cage. It was advertised like a black comedy, but was really a bleak, dark, depressing movie. Its just the usual case of Dimension Films' False Advertising.
