When I watched the video (finally, thank the gods) I noticed that some of the levels looked a little linear, and wasnt that smooth. They were more like "bridges" to get to the real storyline. I didn't like the map with the hovercraft... the enviornment was too plain. But I try to ignore so I can keep more possitive reasons to play the game than negative.

Cheers

Yea...thanks for the great input on hl2. I was waiting for a thread and a fine poster such as yourself to deliver such an interesting review.

Well it depends how you look at it, its an action game so you gotta have alot of action, but alot of the storytelling work can be done in creating mood changes throughout the game.

Being dumped in the middle of a few sequences through a video creates the wrong impression, the hovercraft map is very plain, but then its moving very fast, and most likely has a buildup and a slowdown, if the game was 100% charecter interaction and storytelling it would be an RPG.

I think Half-Life 1 was more linear. It had cramped hallways, and although there were two endings, it was just one choice all the way at the end...

Are you kidding? The hovercraft level was plain in the sense of it being a desolate, mostly dried up canal. But in terms of the environment, it was awesome. The water effects so make that scene, and the crazy rockets constantly blowing things up all around you... sweetness.

Theres nothing wrong with being linear if its done right.

Ive never seen anything so exciting as HL2 before, and i think it will be awhile before we see anything top it

The hovercraft's environment was plain because it was a dried-up lake.
Even then, there were many rocks, busted up cars, a boat, several tunnels, some bridges, miscelanious debris and at least three types of enemy.
