Gah, I've been sitting here for over 2 hours trying to download HL2. I already paid for it and can't even being the download process.

Anyone else in my boat? I need moral support.

aye, same boat.. been getting the notorious "memory could not be "read" error

was going to reinstall just to see if that would work, and now Steam is too busy to give a paying customer his product.
my fault for not making a backup though..
but still.. :dozey:

Remove the file clientregistry.blob in the directory /Steam/

Now restart Steam, let it update and try again.

that worked, thanks man :)

And now the ordeal of updating the game itself :stare:
Making people install Steam games over and over would be an excellent interrogation technique for any secret police hehe

Heh. I bought a DVD... much better than downloading HL2 at 50 Kb/s with 512/512 ADSL line.

game came out in Germany at 9:00 I played at 9:08 til 3 in the morning

Yeah... I would've been playing 5 minutes after release on release day but my HDD failed.

And I built the computer for the game. hah...

Oh yeah, and as Insane Said, try deleting your .blob file. My friend had the same problem and I remembered that trick from a few years back. It definately worked.
