Hi,

I've just rebuilt my system, but I'm getting these weird lines that start at the crosshair, and go to targets (they also appear elsewhere). I thought it might just be half life, but I've tried it on a couple of games, and they're still there. I've provided an example image, and any advice would be really apprecaited.

Many thanks in advance,

Dan

I don't see anything. Maybe somethings wrong with your monitor.

No lines seen, buddy.

The strange lines of doom 2 (with ADDED lines)

OK, I posted earlier about lines appearing on the screen, and a few people rightly pointed out that you couldn't see much (my fault for taking a crappy grab). So I took a new grab, and here it is: http://allyoucanupload.webshots.com/v/2005795302933960182
I really hope someone has experienced the same thing as me, and can help me out. Jeez, I'll even send a free game to anyone that can help!

Thanks in advance,

Dan

It's a problem I've seen before but unfortunately cannot help. Have you tried the forum search function?

It's a tough one to know what to search for. I tried 'white lines', but only found an interesting discussion on the merits of Grandmaster Flash :)

Added? You mean... PHOTOSHOPPED?!?!?!

j/k.Hmmm, this problem looks familiar...

Have you tried updating your GFX Card drivers?

Yup, have updated drivers, and used a driver cleaning utility. A friend seems to think the mobo may not be compatible with my card (a 6800GT), but it seems to handle everything else in first person shooters fine, it's just these odd lines from my gun to targets etc.

Um, that isn't Doom 2, mate.

Anyway, it's also a possibility that your graphics card is overheating. My 6600 GT went explodey because I didn't cool it well enough :( Try opening your case (don't do this if you're in a hot room), and letting COLD air come in.

Happened with me a while back

I roled back my drivers, reinstalled the latest.

Moved my wires around in my case as to let a better airflow, cleaned the fans on the case and gfx card.

Fixed it for me :D

If it does it after that, most likely the card has over heated, you may need to get another

turn your graphics settings down. Including any AA/AF / Bloom you had on previous. Looks to me like it's putting too much strain on your card.

Merged the two threads and moved the thread to the Valve Games Help forum.

Shit I hope that dosnt happen to me! I have a 6600 GF which is fine for what I use it for, but where I live it reaches 35degrees day time temps normally.

I try to keep my fans clean and maintained and all my filters clean, but I have noticed that the case still becomes very warm sometimes, especially when playing games etc. What is a 'safe' operating heat in the conditions Im in and how can I measure it, besides BIOS? Or should I be thinking about extra cooling or using an air-con more often.

I havnt had overheating issues yet, but I dont want too either. :O

I had this a while back, however all i had to do was update my graphics drivers, but you stated you've already done that so i'm fresh out of ideas.

This happens to me all the time. Especially in BF42. It sometimes looks like the map is smeared off in a certain directoin for infinity. I seggust that you lower the settings on the games and it might take it away.

had the same issue with NFSU2, just had to turn the settings down a bit.
