Okay so, I ordered all new parts and such from newegg. One of them being a case, and the standard 5.25 in. drive bays are of course, 5.25 in.


My drives in my existing computer? 5.5 in. dont ask why or how, just trust me that they are.

Okay well, I can't afford new drives and what should I do?

Eh, the floppy drive is 3.75 inches (that wont fit into the standard 3.5 in either).


I know, it's crazy talk but I took the drives out of the brackets and measured them (yes correctly).


I dont know what the hell is wrong with them. I might have to mod the bracket... any suggestions?

dude heres some advice,

dell will do anything to keep its shit, ive had some shitty problems, u format dell ucant put in the new hardware drivers because dell wont , u have to use theirt CDs and shit, man i bet u that drive is bigger for a reason, and u guess it so u cant swap it lol.

u so got owned by dell, if u dont care what ur pc looks like, u can manualy cut of hte side plates and make it fit, but it will look like shit,

be carefull so u wont cut the ****ing needels cdrw and what not,

lol why u want dell shti in ur comp anyway, they have shitty products anyway.

Yeah, Dell's pretty bad.
To install a 2nd hard drive on my old Dell I had to completely rip apart the case.

Great, that's the last time I let someone get a pc for me instead of me getting it for me.

EDIT: oh and I dont want dell shit in my computer, i was just trying to salvage what I could to save myself money while building a good computer.

future advice, always build ur computer by hand, take ur parts to a hardware store, 40 bucks an hour they will assemble it, or get a good freind who konws comp and get him to assemble ur parts.

I've had to do a lot of work on some of the newer, nicer Dells that my relatives have and I have to say they seem to have come a long way. Theirs now have standard size slots and bays and are pretty indistinguishable internally from a normal computer (except they're neater).

drive sizes have been standardized for a long time, most PC mfg , put drives in cages/rails/mountings to fit in there own cases.. you probably DO have standard hardware just wrapped in some god awful mounting crap, take the drives completely out of the case. set them next to some standard stuff and see whats different.
look closely underneath somewhere is some regular sized stuff..
BTW.. my mom has had several dell pc's and every one she had had normal sized HW buried under some weird mounting crap.

I'm also a Dell sucker, they cheap b4stards didn't give me an AGP slot cause they figured the integrated graphics were good enough. But I just got an awesome new motherboard, but it had to be microatx because the case is a microatx case. Then I'm gonna save up for a new power supply and I should be getting some ram soon too. Then I'm getting a new card for xmas. So I just pwnd Dell.
