About
The War of Infamy will take players to the frontlines of World War II's most intense conflicts. In the modification there will be two sides: the Allied side which is represented Americans, Russians, and the British against the German domination. There are going to be many different single player situations: fight along your squad mates in search and rescue situations, battlefield assaults, stealth, sabotage, vehicle chases, dogfights. and tank battles which will give you the gritty realism of World War II. There there will be many levels of intense gameplay fighting in the World War II's most monumental battles among your fellow soldiers. You will be going to: take part in the D-Day Invasion, Stalingrad, Bocage, Brecourt, and many other missions. The modification will feature many new technical and concept improvements like: more dramatic lighting, enhanced squad-based AI, realistic character animations, highly detailed environments, and much more.

Main Features

I have put alot of planning into this modification, and would hate to see it not come true. If you are a person whom is really interested in helping out, please tell me. I am trying to aim for something historicaly correct and fun, but I will need help. First, I need a co-leader to do alot more planning and get this off the ground. If you can carry out alot of responsibilities of different sorts, and are interested, please contact me via the following:

ANOTHER WW2??? I hate to flame but it's getting old... almost everything WW2 has been done and done well.

I'm also getting tired of reading this, you do not have the engine and thus you can not make a judgement on if it will be possible to code all these things in. People's machines can only take so much, you can boast about more dramatic lighting but how do you plan to implement it?

Sorry if I'm a little harsh, but you have to understand that almost every person that wants to make a mod says just about everything you have just said. Have any work done?

Just to hopefully be helpful I would suggest that you mention what is different about your mod than other WWII mods. If you emphasize these unique differences you can hopefully attract more members. Just a suggestion.

First, what will be different is you will see different vehicles than the traditional vehicles, many of which have barely even been written in history. You will get to command V1/V2 rockets, immerse in very fierce dogfights while a ground war is going on, and many other things.

so this is basically Call of Duty or Battlefield 1942 plus a few things? Those were entire games in themselves, so good luck with this one, heh. There are a lot of WWII games and mods already, I'm not really looking forward to more unless it offers something revolutionary.

dream all you want, but it's REALLY hard to pull off a good mod, especially one as large as you're planning.

Alright, but perhaps you could layout everything in a more detailed manner. What are these "many other things?" I'm just saying to catch people's interest you might want to consider really highlighting and explaining your own uniqueness from other games and mods. I'm just trying to help you here, because as is I think it may be hard for you to attract people away from other WWII mods.

Well, you'll be busy until about 2008 modelling all those :)

Seriously, if you're planning on doing this, cut down the weapons/vehicles. If you have several that have few major differences (M1918A2, M1919A4, M1919A6 for example) then you could just condense that into one. Otherwise, you'll have a hell of a lot of weapons/vehicles that never get used.

Recommendation: Inform yourself about the workload you are going to face perhaps just by having a quick peek into the different departments (mapping, modeling, coding, texturing etc.), just download some programs appripropriate for the job (maya learning edition, worldcraft, a paint program) have a look at the Unreal Tournament scripts or the HL SDK and try to mess with it a little (Just as I am doing at the mom with maya... Trying to model a pretty cheap bike... hope I'll ever get past those damn wheels :)) Then you'll see just how much work you'll have to put into it and then reconsider the size of your stuff, boil it down to your essential cool gameplay idea and create the best mod ever...
Remember: Just because you have a gadzillion weapons and vehicles doesn't make your game great except you're going for that Diablo "I'll-just-play-a-little-longer-so-I-may-perhaps-find-that-sword-of-ultra-mega-monster-slaughtering" addictive gameplay... but then you'll have to rethink your concept...

PS: And that thing is called "Stielhandgranate" :cheese:
PPS: And the other thing is a "Kübelwagen" :cheese:

the V1 and the V2 rockets were unmanned . they were self-controlled by giroscopics, no radio control.

I don't see how you can do anything like that while minmally respecting history.

129 vehicles

59 weapons

As Pi said, that is way too many for them all to be used and way too many to model. It would take forever to do that and keeping to the same level of detail for each model would be extremely hard.

If you can do it, then go for it, but almost everyone here would suggest that you cut that list down immensly if you want any hope of releasing the mod anytime soon.

They are honestly trying to help you out. Giving you advice that will help your mod along. Otherwise, with that much work just to fulfill your design document, will cause everyone to get discouraged and quit the mod, or it just wont get finished period.

KISS = Keep It Simple Stupid

Its not to dis, its a principle, the simpler it is, the better it can be, the more complex it is, the harder it is to impliment and for the players to enjoy.

Good luck none the less.

Yep, I agree completely with the above statements. For my own mod I have only 2 player models and under ten weapons total, yet the work required is still going to be quite large. Just something to think about.

ROFL Nice Mod Name. My Site is www.warofinfamy.com We are deciding if we should go to HL2 since we are basically finished modding for Ghost Recon. Although we might change direction and change our name to "The Day of Defeat". Try to Search out your Modification Name on Google before deciding on a Mod name:thumbs:

BTW for those that see the Invasionworks Skins/Models on our Vehicles page.... We got direct permission from Invasionworks to use them in our Mod. One big difference is they actually move and shoot at you, unlike in DOD.
