The world clock

Wow, this thing's kind of cool/scary/interesting.

18,000 species extinct in the past year.

Holy shit, I didn't know there were that many abortions.

Watching the Birth Counter go up makes me happy :)

How could it possibly update its data like this. This is just a board with current statistics and random counters. If you even look at the birth/deaths, they don't correspond with what the population counter is doing.

k is that actually accurate? are there ACTUALLY that many births going on each second or is this just an estimate?

Shame a third of them are countered by abortions.

@ The Brick and AKIRA: Mouseover the "?".
Not at all. Why would it? How does stopping the growth of a lump of cells counter the birth of a new human being???

And it's not accurate, but it gives an idea of how many people are born each minute ect.

People dieing at THAT rate? Shitting hell.

Very cool, but the suicide count on mine is less than Piggy's.

589,328

Dunno how that works...

Christ, is this sort of thing new to you guys? It's obviously estimates, but very cool none the less!

2 Million US prisoners? :O

exactly, theres no way this is accurate, it's just a guestimate I assume

I fail to comprehend how you're trying to take something called a "death clock" seriously.

Look at how the figures update. They're going at a constant rate per second/minute. It's obviously just taking known figures and giving an estimate based on some other rates.

Alot of that must be nitpicking, though.

You don't need 500 different kinds of bat ;)

I wanna see how accurate this is ... At 2:00 GMT I want everybody on these forums to commit suicide. I'll sit here and keep an eye on that suicide counter.

*gasp*

Kira?! D:

It says right on the page that all the figures are estimations based on statistics. :rolling: It's still interesting, but you feel don't feel as godly watching it as you would if it were based on actual data.

No shit.

That world temperature thing is a bit misleading, people are like:

z0mfg teh numbrers iz goin upLOL!! gl00B@L W@rm1n!!!

But it would take about 317 years for the earth to increase by 1 degree at the suggested rate.

lol. are you people actually wondering how a counter like this can possibly work? They're damn estimates. it's not like the counter magically knows exactly when a person died, a species is extinct etc.

Exactly. It doesn't matter in terms of Woah-ability, really, because whatever the *real* figures are, A; They won't be off by a huge amount (at least not the birth/death-counter, some of the others make me wonder, like the abortion timer), just won't go up with 1/sec exactly all the time, and B; We'll never be able to get a really accurate thing like this.

them let be part of it!

*<RJMC> go to make more babyes*

lol the abortions number is counting as fast as a seconds hand.

No, it is actual data. This flash animation is plugged into every computer system in the world and used a sophisticated algorithm to make the calculations accurately, +/- 0.5 person.

Until the robot overlords begin to monitor every aspect of our lives, at least.
