Iran Seizes 3 British Navy Vessels, AFP Says, Citing State TV

June 21 (Bloomberg) -- Iran seized three British navy vessels that reportedly entered the country's territorial waters, Agence France-Presse said, citing Al-Alam, Iran's official Arabic- language satellite news channel.

Eight British sailors were arrested, AFP said.

The TV report said the arrests were made on the Shatt al- Arab waterway that flows into the Gulf and is the boundary between Iran and Iraq, AFP said.

The U.K. Ministry of Defense had no immediate comment.

Anyone elce have any more info on this?

They didnt say that these 3 'vessels' were merely 8-person powerboats, and technically they shouldn't have been there without permission from Iran (since they are Iranian-controlled waters) - but I guess Iran are just nit-picking because they don't like us Brits.

Well, we don't like them either. Boo Iran.

Give us our boats back ;(

Iran = the location of Iraqs WMD. :) Thus, keep all coalition away...

hope they don't kill them, wouldn't surprise me, but...I hope they let them go home.

Lets pray that they get back safely to there families and friends.

"Iranian television has been showing pictures of the men, dressed in military fatigues, sitting on sofas and armchairs in what was obviously an office, although there was no indication of its location. They looked serious but were clearly unharmed."

meh, Iran isnt the country it used to be. A friend of mine just came back from a 2 week business trip in Tehran. He said he never felt in danger, actually the iranians welcomed him and his company's workers...all canadians and a few americans. They'll be charged with violating international waters, may spend some time in jail but will eventually be released unharmed...unless they're found guilty of spying

Heh, yeah those boats don't cheep :)

Anyway, if it was a "real" naval vessel i don't think this situation would be so calm...

It's just some minor incident. i doubt the brits did anything wrong.

heh, when i read the title i thought, damn....read a few articles and it turns out they confiscated a couple of dhingys.

let's see what happens.

Well, they had maps of Iran ppl....so it certainly doesn't seems like they were there by accident.

I doubt that very much, they were most probably warned to stay a certain distance from the Iranian coast but everyone says that it would of been easy to stray to far.
