In blue shift, they used an old teleport to get barney to xen, and when he comes back, they say they were afraid when he didn't come back for some time. In half-life 2, you go through the combine teleport and are gone for a week. Earlier in the game, mossman says that the combine teleport is similar to their calabi-yau model. In the teleport thread a while back, some guy said (I think) that calabi-yau models were out of date. Maybe the BS teleport was a calabi-yau that uses string based teleportation like the combine one, and string based stuff is what makes slow teleports.

People have suggested counter theories, like the prison was falling down around them, and the generators were going berserk, and interference and such caused the slow teleport.

Another thing, I think I've seen somewhere that the G-man used a slow teleport to keep gordon in stasis...?

And this is all theory, stuff I noticed, thought was cool. And before people start going off about how HL2 and BS can't be related because they were made by different companies, it might be the same sorta thing going on with hl1-2, no one said nihilanth for sure was being controlled by combine, along with the metal diaper and all, but it may jsut be an interesting coincidence.
Anyway, here's just something for y'all to think about.

Neadlessly compicated theories. He was probably just put in a freezer like Jasper who became the great Frostelicus! (that episode of the Simpsons is on the tele right now)

Except that the portal that Gordon Alyx go through is the Combine's first NON-string-based model - it uses Xen as a relay like Kliener and Eli's one (it was made by ripping off their work in fact).

The string based teleports are the ones that the Combine used to get to Earth in the first place, is what Mossman means I think.

Actually that's pretty much what I think. I think that the GMan, whatever/whoever he is, has some freedom to slip between dimensions in a similar manner to how humans/xenians are able to do with teleports, except that the G-Man's method is unknown (...natural ability...?). In the same way, all he has to do to keep Gordon in stasis is to take him out of this universe and put him in a state where time moves very slowly (ie. Gordon's few seconds = everyone else's 10 years), just like how Alyx and Gordon spent a whole week journeying through the Nova Prospekt portal.

This all might seem needlessly complicated, but it helps explain G-Man a bit without resorting to the cheesy "he can control time and do anything" stuff. In this scenario he's just something like a 'planewalker', who can occasionally affect those around him with his powers.

*WARNING* this theory is quite possibly impossible

I think it's more to do with the fact that a teleporter can take you anywhere... so really it should be able to take you anywhen, but it's not really advisable... paradoxes and the like. But when the combine prison started falling down you see it all caving in... maybe it sent the teleporter's computer into overdrive, which screwed up the co-ordinates, sending Gordon and Alyx not only into some-other-place but also some-other-time.

Thats just my inexplicable explained theory...

it wouldn't have affected Gordon beacause he is under the power of the Gman's time warp...not enough time was given for the Citadel's teleporter to affect him.

Alyx on the other hand may have been vulnerable, unless of course, the Gman took her too.

By 'combine prison' I meant Nova Prospekt, but your probably right the G-man probably stopped the Citadel's teleporter explosion from taking Gordon to anywhere... or when, and Aftermath pretty much makes it certain that the G-man stopped it affecting Alyx as well...

I think the reason for the teleportation delay was because they were using a Xen Emulation

maybe when the prison was falling down, the computer went haywire and chose a different relay point by some freak accident, instead of xen, it used some other unknown place, where time went very, very slow, and caused gordon and alyx to get to dr.kleiners lab about a week later...

slow teleport = time travel

to alyx & gordon the trip was instant but to kliener 2 weeks had past. Gordon & alex therefore time travelled 2 weeks into the future :)

Not time travel in the way you can go back to the past. That would be immesnly lame. And Valve know its naughty.

It may of course be that because the teleporter was attempting to access a restricted (on kleiners side) teleporter. this would mean that the computer might have to take like a week to attempt to teleport its "cargo" safely and not have you and alyx mashed up into a bloody pulp.
