Theory Quickies:
1) If G-Man is Gordan Freeman from future, then G-man has done all that Gordan Freeman is doing in HL1 and Hl2. There must be a defining moment in Hl3 or whatever when Gordan makes a mistake that stuffs everything up in some way.
G-man is given opportunity to change that "one" moment by getting Vortignaunt technology, going back in time and helping his former self.
2) Perhaps there is someone else who got their hands on the time travelling technology and is trying to "stop" Gordan Freeman from accomplishing something.
3) Everything is a practical joke and they all suprise Gordan Freeman at the endboss of HL3. G-man is a midgit actor with stilts and a mask.
