There really should be an "Impossible" mode

I've played and completed Expert a few times now, it's always my standard difficulty, I love it but I still think it could be harder. I've seen it labelled as the "Impossible" mode... and I wish... there WAS an Impossible mode - well, a mode that's REALLY hard, more hordes, more bosses (more Tanks!).

I've seen that Map Creators can up the Zombie limit, hopefully Custom maps will be the answer?

Does anyone else agree?

I totally agree, but honestly, if the community proclaim their want for an Impossible mode, Valve would more than likely implement one. They're always fixing and adding everything the majority of the community says. E-mail Valve and see if they are thinking about it or not.

Don't say it's too hard until you've played against real people as infected.

Wurd, people playing as infected will add a whole other level of difficulty. But I will take my first stroll on all the levels on normal, to get the feeling. After that it's all Advanced and Expert.

Yeah, of course the AI will make it easier playing through, and I'll admit, most cases I can get through expert without much of a hitch. People will make the game so much more difficult and fun imo.

I agree. Although Expert feels hit or miss to me. I've played games where we beat the demo with only one person dying and games where we retry 20+ times just to get through the second part.

It will be with the exact same people so its not the lack of teamwork.

In my opinion, the reason expert is becoming so easy for people is because so many have realized that you can rush through it before the AI director spawns.

This.

I've had times where we ran through the demo in under 10 minutes and times where we have to retry because there is a Smoker and Hunter waiting outside the safe room to mutilate our penii.

What is the point of that? Saying, "Oh I beat the game on expert, too bad I was cheap and tricked the AI director."

The challenge makes it fun, that's why I always want to set off the car alarm. If I do it in a game with random people I get flamed. With friends its more, "Oh its that crazy Nipples up to his shenanigans."

Expert's hard, and will be even harder throughout the campaign. The only reason you've completed the demo's Expert so many times is that's because that's all there is. You know it inside out. You know where the weapons spawn, where there could be zombies, how to fight the hordes, where best to stay back to, where you can hold out from, how you can hold the final point.

The game will be much harder than you find this now.

But an impossible would be fun. Unfortunately the request for one would be a minimal percentage. The amount of people that complete Half-Life 2 on hard is surprisingly small. Expert is certainly harder than that.

I don't think I've ever played L4D on easy.

I played on easy first time through the single player. Just to get a feel of it. I was actually a bit worried the game was going to be boring after playing through it.

There are many ways in which to tweak things harder, I remember seeing a post that spoke about a console command that forced the entire campaign to restart if you wiped. There are also bound to be various server settings that you could change to make it more challenging.

But yeh an official option would be great, its not a difficult thing for them to add, so if there is demand, im sure they will.

I don't do that, other people do.

I didn't say you did. I meant it as more of a rhetorical what's the point.

I've done the "rush through as fast as possible" a few times, for shits and giggles. I like doing it because it gives you a sense of "I am in a cheap hollywood zombie flick..***nning for my life as fast as possible!"

You start to look behind you more often hoping there isn't something back there, then you turn around and a hunter is in your face....yeah, I get my heart going when I rush.

I wouldn't worry about this until the game comes out. We're only playing through 30% of the first campaign/movie. It's going to get more and more difficult the more sections out of 5 that we play through.

Also, keep in mind that the we only get to play through 1/2 of the subway level. Imagine having to go 100% further with the same amount of resources.

Believe me brother, I'm not disagreeing with you, I just think we need the entire picture before we start making calls for change.

We're not calling for change, dear sir. Instead, we are simply asking to implement a new level of difficulty to the 4 already available. Leave Expert how it is, and add 'Impossible' to allow us to enjoy being overwhelmed by millions of demon Infected. It would be an even greater blast than Expert and more than likely 2 times as frustrating.

No. It would certainly be over nine thousand times as frustrating.

My friends and I decided to play on easy after our first success on expert.

It's hilarious... a good way to release the tension from expert. There is no friendlyfire, zombies do 1 damage per hit... With the sole exception of the tank, you can run the whole thing with nothing but melee.

At the end we started running around killing boomers with first aid kits just to whallop the horde.

The day the demo was released I read (@ work) so many complaints about the demo being short, being too easy, ect

So when I got home I started on expert. I was not disapointed. It took 2 hours to beat the demo.

Starting on expert wouldn't be a bad thing- if anythingyyou will get a better feeling for the levels because you will be constantly replaying them... the great part about it is you won't mind either. Even when the director is impossibly unfair to you and your teammates you'll still be lolling about your humiliating losses. Valve has got a one of a kind Co-op here.

I might have played on Easy, because I recall noting no friendly fire on one of them.

If the demo is anything like the game it will take over my life. I already have seventeen hours of playtime on the demo. That's more than I play most games.

I'm up to 14 hours, with no intentions on stopping. I have a feeling this game will easily hold me over until Diablo 3 or Starcraft 2.

This game could hold anyone over until Duke Nukem comes out.

I say its too early to judge the difficulty, I mean to beat 1 campaign is 5 levels and I'm sometimes near death so by the time round 3 starts I think conservation of medkits will become near impossible.

Oh god, 24.8 hours on the demo already - probably around 20 of those hours were spent on Expert difficulty.

Coincidentally, 24.8 hours is probably the time it would take to complete a level on an Impossible difficulty. Seriously, the zombies would probably take 50 HP per hit. Which is ridiculous, I'd struggle making it past the Apartments in No Mercy.

I think everybody would struggle, which is why it would be awesome!!!!

After trying the other Campaigns, I can safely say... Expert IS Impossible, lol.

I'm struggling to get past 2nd Stage on Most. It's awesome, such a challenge! :D

Even advanced is damn harsh once you're up to the finale.

There are various console commands you can use to make the zombies faster, increase body resistance (requiring more headshots), lots of stuff. You need to be a server admin or to play offline with cheats for this though.

You were actually serious in wanting an Impossible mode after just playing two of the first stages in the demo? :p

I found Expert crazy hard on the second part of No Mercy.

Expert in the demo was easy. And we all like you wanted impossible. Once you get to the 3rd/4th stage it becomes a you must do this in a perfect form to beat it. Really hard but very nice. Impossible would still be a nice touch.

Dear god, I've played through the Finale on Mercy so many times, and I've yet to beat it. Expert kicks my balls.

Exactly...i played the No Mercy Finale for at least 3 hours before we beat it on expert, and then i thought.....wow people were complaining about it not being hard enough...

Yeah, Expert from the demo was definitely easy sometimes. But the finales are definitely where the difficulty level SHINES. 15 minutes on No Mercy on the highest difficulty with multiple hunters, numerous smokers, tenacious and plentiful boomers, and the lovable 3 tanks that Nicky would agree could "break his spine."
Also, trying to get away while Infected are smacking away at you can be quite the bitch, and pipe bombs come in handy. Too bad they are quite limited, much to the dismay of players.

i was thinking what could the "impossible" mode be like, and yet, still be a fun challenge to try every now and then... Well, what if it was all the same as on expert (same enemy hp, etc) except the following:

there were no musical cues to clue you in what enemy was coming

no mics the allowed

Only tier one guns

and finally: no silhouettes of your team mates (now THAT would be a challenge).

I wouldn't agree with disabling mics, it kinda goes against the whole Coop thing with friends - I love the no silhouettes things though, lol and maybe only start with pills instead of medkits.

I'm sure it could be easily changed server side.
