I went to my local music store and they've got one there ($500 **** that), I tried it and oh my god are they so much fun!

Probably the least practical, steepest learning curve, most unnecessary instrument ever.

But still.

The loopy one on the side controls volume (get further away, it gets louder, closer gets quieter), the other one gets higher pitched the closer you get. There are knobs on the front of the box for things like waveform, brightness, bass/treble, and overall volume.

I'm thinking of trying to make one in my CommTech class.. It's tempting.
 
Oh man, I love theremins. They're so excellently hard core. You totally should make one.
 
It's funny, even the guy there said 'these things are fun, but if you want one you shouldn't buy one, you'd be better off making one'. And all the guys who work there are musicians, so either they really want to keep it, or they think it's a waste of money (guitars are way ****ing cooler anyways).
 
I have seen one of these in practice not with this name. it looked awesome.
 
There's a good chance it is a waste of money. Also, I think they only make sine waves, unless you hook them up to effects pedals and stuff?
 
You could always make one which used cos
