I went to my local music store and they've got one there ($500 **** that), I tried it and oh my god are they so much fun!
Probably the least practical, steepest learning curve, most unnecessary instrument ever.
But still.

The loopy one on the side controls volume (get further away, it gets louder, closer gets quieter), the other one gets higher pitched the closer you get. There are knobs on the front of the box for things like waveform, brightness, bass/treble, and overall volume.
I'm thinking of trying to make one in my CommTech class.. It's tempting.
