I'm so sad. I've been waiting for this day since I'm 8 years old.
For me voting is so important, how many people shed blood to give the people the freedom of choosing our leaders?

As I was in line to vote, they sundely told me I was scrathed from the list and that I couldn't vote.
I had to take a 30 minutes walk to the city hall so they could explain to me why the FUK I couldn't vote.

The answer : The dumb ass mother fukers at the French embassy in Mexico signed me up in ther voting list. Its "ilegal" to be signed up in 2 lists. Of course, the dumb fuks never told me I was signed up, and even thought I received my voting card with my new French address, I had to resigned from the old list.

6000 thousand people found themselfs in the same situation today.
Its a discrace to the memories of the poeple who gave their lifes so we could vote today. Whats the fuking diference if you vote here or there?
Fuking french burocracie.

Now if I want to vote for the second round, I need to go to Paris so a judge can sign the resignation...

Im so let down, I feel like Im not participating in this historic moment in France.

I hope Sarkozy pases to the second round. They are giving the numbers in 10 minutes.

Yay for the socialits!
Royal doesn't want to keep things the same, shes a socialist!

That's the beauty of it though - she's a socialist that wants to keep everything that has absolutely screwed France for the last 20 years in place. The short working week, the absurd tax rates, the money down the drain social welfare benefits. If it takes Sarkozy to force those changes so be it. Remember the last time changes were made under Rafarin by Francois Fillon iirc to the 35 hour working week in 2003 there were riots!
Well I'm no expert on French politics but if the socialist worker has taught me anything it's that something must be done for the inner city immigrant children living with daily racism and no prospects.

Its kind of like thise :

The socialist, wich have screwed France for the last 20 years, want to take the money from the hard working people and give it to the ones who dont do shit. You wont believe how many people live from the goverments back. Some never work, they get paid 600 Euros, plus all the money for their children, house rent etc. Some famillies who never work, with 5 children, get paid at least 1200 USD with all the gov. help.
They want to put 32 hours of work per week, thus the reason all major French bussinnes are leaving to China.
The socialist want to work less and win more.

Sarkozy wants to give valour to the hard working people, give a nice dose of patriotism and put back hard work into daily lifes.

Plus, the socialist play their woman candidate card.

Should that 6 million be 6000? Still ****ed up regardless i guess :x

Actually that socialistic idea works as long as you kick in the faces of the "bugger-all" people who don't even want to work. That's the way it happens in Belgium. When you lose your job and you starting living from government aid, you get around a year to follow free courses in practically everything. Normally, they would costs hundreds to thousands of euros, but you can learn all that crap for free then. Then, you get a job. If you can't find an open spot, you learn something else.

Keep in mind that while you're doing all this, a government official checks up on you every now and then to see if you're really advancing.

That is a bit shit that you were not allowed to vote.

And I thought it was going to be because you were black or something. Ho ho ho!

32 hour work week? ****ing hell, that's a disgrace. I thought 35 was bad enough.
Granted, the idea of doing only six hours of work a day is very tantalising, but we live in the real world. And what right does the government have to tell you how many hours you can work anyway?
I used to work 45-60 hours and rarely had a lunch break to speak of...it's pretty standard in London. Bit on the heavy side actually, but it beats a 32 hour week any day.

There IS a politics section you know. You can't get much more political than a thread about voting for politicians. Use your head when creating a new thread.

Things will certainly be interesting if Sarkozy gets in. He'll probably give France a much needed kick up the arse but if the riots of a few summers ago are anything to go by, it won't go down too well in some parts of society.

It needs to be done. It should also be an example to European countries who suffer the same crap as well: Imigrant's children who have citizenchip but do not give a fuk to be integrated in society.

Now days, a simple piece of paper thats says you are french dosn't mean anyhting. Being French, is respecting your country, having the same Republican valors and working for the sake of your contry.
These people don't even like to be called French, they call the "real" french "the others".

Some people still speack fukng arab ! 20 years in France ans still wont speak a word of French. Talk about integration.

The thread wasn't originally about politicians, it was about being denied the right to vote... Read the OP when making snide comments.

I'm rooting for Sarkozy, his policies seem to make sense to me, although I've heard he's a bit an emotional madman.

Royal is apparently from a rich family who knows nothing of poor life, and defied her socialist colleagues to get where she is now. She seems to enjoy socialism only for popularism.

I hope France gets itself fixed, remove the malaise it has been experiencing. It needs a break from the socialists (I'm not saying that some degree of socialism is bad, but France has had an overdose and is dying).

Also Shasta is a troll who blows goats.

I spent last year in Toulouse (southern France), and I must add to the discussion that France has totally gone down the crapper. It's just sad. I had to look for almost an entire month before I finally met someone who'd trust a foreigner enough to let me his apartment. I had to pay the entire year of rent in advance though. The reason: if I were to stop paying rent, there's no way for the owner to kick me out, thanks to social laws.

I was met with so much bureaucracy and suspicion I ended up disgusted. When I went to the city hall to ask questions about the difficult housing problems for non-French Europeans, they told me Europe wasn't real, that it only existed on paper.

I never saw as many arrests in my entire life as I witnessed in Toulouse. Police harassed as many young people as they could as fast as they could. (edit: I even took pictures of some of the more brutal-no reason arrests)

Concerning jobs, I really could feel airbus was doing a bad job and it had its impact on the daily mood of everyone.

To sum up, I think sarko is needed in terms of economics (France has become way to lax on its social benefits), but is the exact opposite of what is needed in terms of police and "security" (there's already too much police, France has become what is know as a police state already).
Royal is just a silly person, I can't take her seriously, she never answers a question with a straight answer, instead, she always explains why the question is invalid because of some great patriotic concept.
edit: so the choice is between oppression and stupidity.

Yeah, thats my main problem with Sarkozy, he's very confrontational and worryingly authoritarian.

I would've hoped Bayrou, would win (the "middle man"), since all other candidates are anti-EU in one way or an other. Sarkozy even wants to increase France's power in the union, despite the fact that the French are technially ruling it already. Their idiotic subsidies to the wine farmers are draining EU's economy.

Now I'm hoping Royal will win.

Sarkozy has to win, and it looks like that won't be much of a problem for him.

So I guess the next president of France will be Nicolas Sarkozy...

Shit!

**** shit, ****ing good job france.

I'm really looking fwd fo what is going to happen now.
His specch was asawme, I gave tears away. When he spoke on how France would take its place back in the world, how he wouldn't forget French citizens kidnappend in Colombia, how he will not tolerate and negotiate with contries who don't respect the 4 freedoms.

Bravo !

Well he's certainly got his work cut out for him. I just hope he manages without everybody going ****ing mental over it.

I'm so used with Chirac as president of France, I can't imagine what it will be like with someone else. Guess I'm gonna find out.

Shit!

**** shit, ****ing good job france.

what happened?

you where looking at the tv whit your dolls of castro, staling and lenin hoping to the other woman to win but almost had a heart attack when she lose?
