Howeve, you may not be aware that for a long time now both men and a small dev team called Black Widow Games have been working on They Hunger: Lost Souls, a new stand alone horror-action game that uses Valve's Source engine. They first announced their plans to the public about a year ago but have remained silent about the status of the game for the past several months. Today, we have some exclusive new screenshots for They Hunger: Lost Souls along with a new update on the game from Einar Saukas. Saukas told us that part of the reason for the lack of new info and screenshots for the game is that the team wants to keep the mystery of what happens in They Hunger: Lost Souls and not reveal too much beforehand. They also are a small team and would rather work on finishing the game rather than do a lot of advanced publicity. However they have graciously given us an update on the status of the title. Here is a snip:

The game is now very close to release. From our previous screenshots, you can see the biggest issue we had was the lack of proper zombies. We were using "placeholder" models as temporary replacements for zombies during most of the development process, so we could continue working on other areas while we didn't have enough people to model and animate new zombies. But in the last few months we were able to focus on the game pending issues, especially additional models and animations. You can see the difference in these latest images.

Our work is concentrated now on game improvements overall. There isn't much left to do, but the game still needs lots of small details and tweaks that are very time consuming. We understand our fans are anxious to play it, but after about 2 years of development, it doesn't make sense to rush its release now and sacrifice quality, when the game is so close to be finished. We still don't have an official release date, but we can say it will be "very soon".

Thanks to Frostbite for the heads-up.

I'm a huge fan of the first 3... damn, this is going to be ****ing worth the wait.

Great News, looking forward to this game. Those zombies look really freaky. They've definately come a long way from their early screenshots.

I'm really impressed. Those zombies look incredible! Some of the best I've ever seen. I was excited as soon as I heard about this game, and that was when they were still using HL2 civilans as zombies. This is even better. I love They Hunger, it's great HL mod and I can't wait to see how this one turns out.

I'll probably buy it just because I had fun with the first 3.

Wow! Looking very nice; can't wait for this one.

I wonder if with this games release, they will release some Steam compatible versions of the old games.

Great screenshots! I'll definately buy it, because the three mods entertained me that much.

I played the old games with Steam.

I've had some issues with trying to play them on Steam.
Namely certain levels not loading.

Thread Revival!
No, there isnt any new news..
But it's been about 3 months since they announced the game would "be out very soon".
:<

Hope we get it real soon.
/pray

Considering that the game's been in development for over two years, "very soon" could be considered to mean any number of months. Plus, the last stretch - bugfixing, tweaking, polishing - can sometimes be the most complex and frustrating time.

I sent Neil Manke (They Hunger Team Leader) an email and here was his responce (his words highlighted in red):

sorry the game is taking so long but we have decided to spend additional
time on improving and adding new content. also, einar is brazilain, and when they say "very soon" is basically means nothing:)

ok, good suggestion, we are going to post a news update at the site concerning the release

>Regardless, keep up the good work, guys!

thanks a lot nick! your enthusiasm is encouraging:)

Awesome, an update is comming! :D
Glad I found his personal email address. ;)

I get stuck at some part when an elevator is supposed to come up/down to get you. I press the button and nothing ever happens...
Pic of the elevator below.

I press the button, nothing happens. The door opens when I touch it and if I look up I see a platform.

And yeah, I've tried from a New Game several times with no success.
