6. read up about sports news at cbssports.com

How about you guys

Wander around.

I work as a bagger/cart getter at a grocery store. When it's dead and I have nothing to do I go and read the magazines, walk around, dick around outside, etc.

No job right now, last I had one I spent about 90% of my time working reading Something Awful.

I can't use computers at work becouse I, well work.

Lazy ****s. You wouldn't last one day in my shoes.

You wouldnt last a day in mine. I troll forums at a grueling pace

Turn up late, that usually takes care of a good hour. Take a really long time over unimportant tasks. Draft and redraft uneccessarily long emails to colleagues, giving a lot of thought to grammar and tone. Check local news and argue with idiots making comments there. Check my Twitter. Make custom maps on Google Maps. Browse flickr. Go for a dump and read notalwaysright.com and ifyoulikeitsomuchwhydontyougolivethere.com on my phone. Go and get another cup of coffee. Go and fill up my water bottle. Go and pee again.

When I interned last summer, I had a lot of free time because there was often no work to do, even if I sent out emails every day asking people for work. I'd literally have three days straight of time sheets with no work. It was in enviro consulting, and the only legitimate thing to do with your free time was to read government regulations on air pollution, so I did that for about a month before I got bored. Then I moved on to water quality and remediation. After I got tired of those, I read the news and did a lot of crosswords. Also, I had GRE's coming up, so I studied vocabulary lists and wrote practice essays. If I got really bored, I would sit at my desk and try to list all the states in the US, then as many countries as I could think of (I made it above 100). I had my own office so it's not like anyone could see what I was doing anyways.

Oh yeah, and Pomegranate reminded me, I went to the restroom a lot also, because I was BORED.

I used to attach staples end to end and make long chains out of them when I was working at a job years and years ago.

When I used to work as a customer advisor at M&S before university I used to pass away the time on my till drawing chemical bonds. Oh my God. Sad.

Now my job's so full on that I don't have the time to think about anything but what I'm doing.

I need a happy medium.

Sit in the bathroom and lock the door. That's about it really, it's a small building and they are very strict. So you can't go off and hide anywhere.

My last job I couldn't get out of anything we had to do...

Before that, though, I worked at a big pet store, and I'd just go back to the warehouse and dick around rearranging stuff and using the compactor on all the cardboard laying around when I didn't want to be out on the floor dealing with people.

I usually check prices online, and I scan all the video games to see the price drops. I'm usually the first to find out whats cheap and whats not. Also I'm in the spotlight most of the time so I can't just wander around but if a customer needs help I'll try calling another store for them because its like taking a break just waiting for an answer.

In previous jobs time-wasting opportunities were a bit more fun:
Smashing entire palates of expired eggs against the inside of the food skip, one at a time
Doodling insulting charicatures of my co-workers
Wrestling on the bingo hall floor
Leering at the bar girl with massive breasts for hours on end
Slanging matches and fighting
Colouring in and ignoring customers on the till at Muji
Criticising the dress sense and personal appearance of anyone coming into the shop and making up bizarre sexual tastes on their behalf
Being comedically dry-humped by the other sales assistants when the customers were looking the other way

God my previous jobs sucked ASS.

I work at home.

Unless I have a headache (which is pretty frequent, unfortunately) I listen to music while I work. I usually try to stick to work. Getting things done. I don't get paid by the hour, I get paid by what I do. If I were to come online, I'd lose an hour almost automatically.

I can't do much online since anything that contains one iota of entertainment is blocked by our filter, so I'm left to the following:

-Smoke breaks
-CNN.com
-Wikipedia

Shit. That's it, really.

surfthechannel
ultimateguitar
playlist.com
youtube
liveleak
hulu

and i have a random blog where i vent about all the shit that's bothering me on a day to day basis. It's nice to get things off my chest once in a while even though the people who read it are anonymous.

Every once in awhile I'll come on hl2.net. Usually I go to some 3D related site (Zbrushcentral, cgtalk, polycount, etc) so that way if I get caught I can attribute it to "getting inspiration/motivation." But usually, when I dont have any actual work-related work, I work on personal projects. When I have work, I generally actually do it taking only a 5 minute break every couple hours. I like my job, so its not often that I try to avoid doing it.
