would a GeForce 6800 (non-Ultra or GT or w/e) from a 9600 pro be a well thought out purchse? or a "OMG, IT'Z teh WOW!! M|_|5T |-|4\/3!!11" purchase?

bosox188 said:That would be a good upgrade, you'd see a HUGE difference in performance, definitely get a 6800.
you will be ably to paly hl2 in all its glory with a 9600thehunter1320 said:would i be able to play HL2 in all it's glory? or are there certain features that only ATi cards can handle?
Yeah i agree my next graphics card will be ablahblahblah said:Getting the 6800 Non-Ultra will be a substantial performance increase. However, I have serious concerns about its slower clock speeds and memory. I highly recommend that if you are going to get a next-gen graphics card, look into the 6800GT or the X800 Pro as the performance increase over the 6800 is substantial. If you do go with the 6800 GT/X800 Pro, try overlocking your processor a tad to reduce/eliminate any processor bottleneck you may have.

Yes, you will. Did you even see the benchmarks?DiSTuRbEd said:No probably not...

DiSTuRbEd said:If they couldn't then no one would want to buy the game, because they couldn't use full detail. And yes both cards can handle both games at full detail settings.
blahblahblah said:People are confused. At medium/high quality settings, Doom 3 looks better than Far Cry. With that said, Doom 3 has an Ultra Quality setting that no computer can run (even a FX-53 with a 6800 Ultra Extreme) that is supposed to look mind blowing.
guinny said:I am definately going to attempt to use this setting. Idc if i get 2 fps, I'm definately attempting to get it to run. You think MAYBE...just..MAYBE i can squeeze by with 20 fps?

blahblahblah said:Ultra Quality mode will require a graphics card with 512 MB of video memory. Ultra Quality mode will not compress any textures. For reference, a 256 MB video card will still compress diffuse and specular textures, but will have uncompressed normal maps. Ultra Quality mode will also have settings that will make Doom 3 look better (possibly through the use of more shaders, etc).
Guinny, hate to break it to you, but your computer is not powerful enough to run Doom 3 at its maximum settings. It will probably be until next year that a computer system will have enough power to run Doom 3 in all of its glory.
nope. i had posted a mag scan but had to take it off.DiSTuRbEd said:If they couldn't then no one would want to buy the game, because they couldn't use full detail. And yes both cards can handle both games at full detail settings.
Doom 3 has settings that will make the game look even better on hardware that don't even exist yet (beyond the just upping resolution, like in most games.)
