this game is pissing me off!

first off I am running a 2.8 GHz P4, 512 mb rambus ram, ATI 9600XT video, XP pro.

I installed HL2 and when I start the game it takes like 5 min to get the game screen, then another 5 min's for the initial screen to activate, game play is stuttery.

I have decreased all of the game setting to lowest setting.

Does anyone have any advise on game optimal game settings??

PS I searched and did not find what I was looking for.

everything to low..ur comp isnt good enough.
I have
p4 3.0ghz
1.5gb ram
9800 pro

and it STILL gets choppy at points.

Dont get pissed at the game cuz ur computer isnt good.

Mudrider, you should expect not less than 40-60 fps with everything on high (except water) in 1024x768. I kinda forgot what Rambus memory is, if it's equivalent to PC2700 or higher you're OK.

Indeed, this game is not stuttery at all with a PC worse than JrdnGrns ... try closing down open applications to free up more ram. Oh and the intro wait is as normal. You can speed it up by:

Go to HL2 in the play games list
Right click --> Properties --> Launch Options
Add the line:

-novid +map_background none

No VALVe vid will play on startup, and the game won't bother loading the background map for the menu. Much better
